Y/N's POV
The evening was crisp and clear, the kind of night where the stars seem to sparkle a little brighter. I was in the mansion's lounge, enjoying the rare moment of peace. The hum of conversation and laughter from the other X-Men was a soothing backdrop, but my focus was on Erik. He had been unusually quiet tonight, which, in its own way, was intriguing.
I caught him glancing my way from across the room, a flicker of something in his eyes that I couldn't quite place. Erik Leshnerr—Magneto, as the world knew him—was a man of formidable presence, but tonight, he seemed different. Almost... nervous?
He cleared his throat and stood up, pushing through the crowd to approach me. I pretended to be absorbed in a book, glancing up with a playful smile as he drew closer.
"Evening, Y/N," he said, his voice smooth but with an edge of uncertainty. "Mind if I join you?"
I looked up, meeting his gaze. "Not at all, Erik. Have a seat." I patted the cushion beside me, trying to hide my amusement at his awkwardness.
He sat down, running a hand through his hair, clearly trying to appear casual. "So, um, what's a person like you doing in a place like this?"
I raised an eyebrow, leaning slightly closer. "A person like me? You mean someone who enjoys a quiet evening?"
"Exactly," he said, trying to look confident but failing as he fidgeted with his glass. "I mean, it's not often I see you... relaxed."
I chuckled, shaking my head. "Well, I'm glad to hear you've noticed. But I'm curious, Erik. What's on your mind tonight? You don't usually approach people with such... charm."
His cheeks flushed slightly, and he coughed, clearly flustered. "Charm? I—uh—well, I suppose I wanted to, uh, talk to you about... something."
"Oh?" I leaned in a bit more, my smile widening. "And what would that be?"
Erik shifted in his seat, clearly struggling to find the right words. "It's just that, um, I've been thinking. You're, uh, quite remarkable. And I—I wanted to, you know, let you know that."
I tilted my head, enjoying his obvious discomfort. "Remarkable, huh? That's quite a compliment coming from you."
"Yes, well," he stammered, "I... I don't always give compliments, so..."
I laughed softly, reaching out to touch his arm gently. "Erik, are you trying to flirt with me?"
His eyes widened in surprise. "Flirt? I—well, I suppose I am, in a way."
I leaned back, crossing my arms with a playful smile. "You're not very good at it, you know."
He looked at me, his expression a mix of frustration and amusement. "I'm not? I thought I was... doing okay."
I shook my head, laughing. "You're doing better than you think. But you might need to work on your technique a bit."
Erik's face flushed deeper, and he let out a long sigh. "I should have known you'd be the type to tease. You're impossible to impress."
I grinned, reaching out to squeeze his hand. "I'm not impossible to impress. I'm just... particular."
He looked down at our hands, then back up at me, a genuine smile tugging at his lips. "Well, I suppose I'll take that as a challenge."
"Good," I said, leaning in a bit closer. "Because I'd love to see what you come up with."
Erik's smile widened, and for the first time that evening, he looked truly at ease. "Challenge accepted. I'll do my best to impress you, Y/N."
I met his gaze, my heart fluttering a little at the warmth in his eyes. "I look forward to it, Erik."
As the evening wore on, we continued our conversation, the flirtation between us growing more natural. Erik's nervousness faded, replaced by a confident charm that made my heart race. And as we talked, I couldn't help but feel that the night had taken an unexpected but delightful turn.
Erik's POV
Watching Y/N's playful teasing and the way she leaned in just a little closer, I couldn't help but be captivated. I had been trying so hard to act cool and collected, but the truth was, she made me nervous in the best way possible. Her teasing was both a challenge and an invitation, and I was determined to rise to it.
Her touch on my arm sent a shiver through me, and when she smiled, it was like the world had narrowed to just the two of us. I could feel my nerves settling as we talked, her laughter easing the tension I had been carrying all evening. She was charming and beautiful, and despite my initial awkwardness, I found myself enjoying the dance of flirtation more than I had expected.
"I'll make sure to impress you," I said, feeling a genuine sense of excitement. "Just you wait."
Her eyes sparkled, and she gave me a soft, encouraging smile. "I'm counting on it."
