You being nervous for your first kiss

Charles:

Y/N had faced countless challenges since she'd joined the X-Men, from life-threatening missions to learning to harness her powers, but nothing had prepared her for the nerves bubbling inside her now. Sitting across from Charles Xavier, the man who could read her every thought if he wanted to, she felt exposed in a way she never had before. He had always been so kind, so patient, but tonight was different.

They had spent the evening in his private study, discussing a recent mission, but the conversation had shifted—become more personal. The air was heavy with unspoken words, the tension building between them in a way that made Y/N's heart race. She had always admired Charles; his wisdom, his leadership, his calm demeanor. But admiration had grown into something more over time, something deeper. And now, as they sat in the quiet of the evening, Y/N felt that weight pressing on her chest.

She'd known this moment was coming for a while. They had grown closer, spent more time together outside of missions. Their late-night talks had turned into quiet moments where words didn't seem necessary, where a glance or a soft smile was enough to communicate volumes. But there was something they hadn't crossed yet—something more intimate. A kiss.

And Y/N was terrified.

She wasn't afraid of Charles himself. If anything, he was the one person who made her feel safe in this chaotic world. But it was the vulnerability that came with that first kiss, the unspoken promise it held. Would he expect her to be confident, certain? Would he find her hesitance off-putting?

Charles had the ability to read minds, but he never intruded without permission. Still, Y/N couldn't help but wonder if he knew what she was thinking right now. She fidgeted in her seat, her fingers nervously tracing the rim of her glass as she tried to push the anxious thoughts away. She could feel his gaze on her, calm and reassuring as always, but tonight, it only made her more aware of how nervous she was.

"Y/N," Charles finally spoke, his voice soft and gentle. "You seem distracted. Is something on your mind?"

Y/N's breath caught in her throat. How could she explain what she was feeling? How could she tell him that the thought of kissing him both thrilled and terrified her in equal measure? She wasn't even sure if she had the courage to say the words aloud.

"It's nothing, really," she tried to brush it off, but her voice was too shaky, too uncertain.

Charles's lips curved into a small, knowing smile. "You forget, my dear, that I can sense emotions quite clearly. You're not 'nothing' nervous. Is it something I've said? Or... something I haven't said?"

Y/N's heart pounded in her chest. He was too perceptive, and it made her feel even more exposed. She opened her mouth to respond, but the words wouldn't come. How could she tell him the truth without sounding foolish? Without sounding inexperienced or scared?

"Y/N," Charles said again, his voice filled with that soft patience that made her feel so comfortable with him, even now. "You can tell me anything. You know that, don't you?"

She swallowed hard and met his eyes. Those eyes, so blue, so full of understanding. How could he be so composed all the time? Y/N took a deep breath, trying to summon her courage. "I—there's something I've been thinking about," she began, her voice barely above a whisper.

Charles tilted his head, encouraging her to continue with just a look, a gentle smile on his face.

"It's just that... I've never done this before," she admitted, feeling her face flush with embarrassment. "And I—I don't want to mess it up. I don't want to disappoint you."

Charles's expression softened even more, if that were possible. He reached across the small table, his hand covering hers, and Y/N felt a warmth spread through her at the contact. "Mess it up?" he repeated softly, his tone laced with disbelief. "Y/N, you could never disappoint me. Not in a thousand years."
