The soft hum of music floated through the air, blending with the faint sounds of laughter and chatter from the nearby kitchen, where a few of the X-Men were gathering for a movie night. Y/N had been looking forward to this evening for days. It was a chance to unwind, to be with friends, and to enjoy Peter's company. But as she glanced at the clock, her heart sank. Peter was late, and this wasn't the first time.

He had promised he would be there early to help set up. They had even talked about picking the movie together. Yet, here she was, sitting on the couch with a knot in her stomach, feeling more anxious than excited.

"Hey, Y/N, you okay?" Kurt asked, walking into the room with a bowl of popcorn. He could sense her unease.

"Yeah, I'm fine," she replied, forcing a smile. "Just waiting for Peter."

Kurt frowned slightly. "He's not here yet?"

"No, he's late." She tried to keep her voice steady, but the disappointment seeped through.

"Maybe he got caught up with something," Kurt suggested, trying to be reassuring.

"Or maybe he's busy with his old crew," Y/N snapped, her frustration boiling over. "He promised me he wouldn't go back to that life."

Kurt's expression softened. "You know he cares about you, right? He'll show up."

Y/N nodded, but her heart felt heavy with doubt. She hated feeling this way, but Peter's past was a constant shadow over their relationship. Despite his charm and easygoing nature, the ghost of his thieving days loomed large, threatening to pull him away from her.

Minutes dragged on, and just as Y/N was about to text Peter, the door swung open. He burst in, breathless and grinning, his silver hair tousled and eyes sparkling with mischief.

"Hey, sorry I'm late! You'll never guess what just happened!" he exclaimed, rushing into the room.

Y/N felt a mixture of relief and irritation wash over her. "You're late, Peter. We had plans," she said, trying to keep her voice calm.

"Yeah, but you won't believe this! I just pulled off the sickest score. I'm talking about—"

"Wait, what? You were out thieving again?" Y/N interrupted, her heart sinking. "I thought we agreed you were done with that!"

Peter's grin faltered as he caught the edge of her tone. "It was just a little job, Y/N. Nothing serious."

"Nothing serious?" she repeated incredulously, standing up from the couch. "You promised me you'd leave that life behind! Do you even care about our relationship?"

"Of course, I care!" he shot back, his voice rising. "But I can't just turn off who I am. You knew that when we got together!"

"And I thought you were willing to change!" Y/N exclaimed, her hands trembling with frustration. "You keep breaking promises, Peter. I don't know how much more I can take!"

"Come on, it was one job! You're blowing this way out of proportion!" he argued, crossing his arms defensively.

Y/N felt her heart pounding in her chest. "You're prioritizing your past over me! What am I supposed to think when you go off and do this?"

Peter's expression shifted, the playful light in his eyes replaced with anger. "You think I want to go back to that? I thought you trusted me!"

"Trust you?" she echoed, her voice trembling with emotion. "How can I trust you when you keep lying to me? You say you want to change, but it feels like you're just running back to your old life the moment it gets tough!"

He stepped closer, his frustration palpable. "You don't understand! It's not that easy for me! I didn't choose this life; it chose me! But I'm trying to make things work with you. Can't you see that?"

The air between them crackled with tension, each word stoking the flames of their argument. "No, I can't see it! You keep making excuses instead of taking responsibility!" Y/N shouted, her voice echoing in the small room.

"Excuses? You think I'm making excuses?" Peter's voice raised further, his anger matching hers. "I've done everything to prove I care about you! But you keep throwing it back in my face!"

"I wouldn't have to if you hadn't broken your promise!" she fired back, her chest heaving with emotion.

Suddenly, their shouting stopped, the silence in the room feeling heavy and charged. The intensity of their argument hung in the air, the weight of unspoken feelings pressing down on them.

Y/N felt her heart racing, the adrenaline of anger now morphing into something else entirely. She was frustrated, hurt, and scared all at once. As she looked into Peter's eyes, she saw the same whirlwind of emotions reflected back at her—anger, passion, fear.

Without thinking, she stepped closer, their bodies nearly touching. "You don't get it, do you?" she said quietly, her voice trembling. "This isn't just about your past; it's about us."

Peter's gaze softened, the anger giving way to vulnerability. "I don't want to lose you, Y/N. I thought you understood that."

In that moment, the tension shattered like glass, and before either of them could second-guess it, Y/N reached up and pulled him down, crashing her lips against his. The kiss was fierce, filled with all the emotions that had been building between them—anger, frustration, longing, and an undeniable love that couldn't be ignored.

Peter responded immediately, his hands finding her waist, pulling her closer as he deepened the kiss. The warmth of his body against hers melted away the anger and hurt, leaving only the undeniable connection they shared.

When they finally pulled apart, both of them breathless and wide-eyed, the fight that had consumed them moments ago felt like a distant memory.

"I'm sorry," Y/N whispered, her voice shaky. "I just... I'm scared of losing you."

Peter brushed a strand of hair away from her face, his expression softening. "I'm scared too," he admitted, his voice low. "I never wanted to hurt you. I want to be better, for you, for us."

Y/N nodded, feeling tears prick at the corners of her eyes. "I just need you to be honest with me. I can't handle the secrets, Peter."

"I promise," he said earnestly, his blue eyes locking onto hers. "No more lies. I'll work on leaving that life behind, but I need your support. I can't do it alone."

"I'll be here," Y/N said, her heart swelling with hope. "But you have to meet me halfway."

"I will. I swear," he replied, pulling her into another embrace.

As they stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, the world outside faded away, leaving only the two of them and the unbreakable bond they shared. Y/N realized that even in their darkest moments, their love had the power to bring them back together.

"We should probably go back before everyone thinks we've killed each other," Y/N said, her voice lightening as she pulled back slightly.

Peter chuckled, the tension finally dissipating. "Yeah, but I have to say, the fighting part was kind of exciting."

Y/N rolled her eyes playfully, her heart feeling lighter. "Let's keep the excitement for the missions, okay?"

"Deal," he grinned, reaching for her hand as they walked back towards the others.

As they stepped into the living room, the laughter and chatter welcomed them like a warm embrace. Y/N couldn't help but smile, knowing that despite the challenges they faced, they were stronger together. And as long as they continued to communicate and trust one another, their love would only grow deeper, ready to weather whatever storms lay ahead.

In that moment, Y/N felt a surge of hope, a promise that their relationship could withstand any challenge, and she couldn't wait to see what the future held for them.
