I can't believe what happened to Amber. That asshole Charlie needs to pay for what he did. Thank God I was able to step in and save her. God only knows what would've happened if I hadn't been there last night. I shiver at the thought.
I wake up as the dawn of the morning sanctifies my revival from sleep, and I look over to Amber to see that we fell asleep on the couch together last night. Man, it feels so nice to wake up next to her. My feelings for her are only growing. To be honest, I don't even feel guilty about cuddling Amber even though I'm with Annika. I mean, of course deep down I wouldn't want to go too far with Amber without breaking up with Annika first. Amber and I's chemistry is just too much to say no to. I can't stay with Annika knowing that my heart has left her for someone else. I need to do something about our relationship. I guess I'll tell her when I get back. Eh, who knows. I'll figure it out.
Amber's eyelids flutter upon me as her beautiful, warm cocoa-colored eyes gaze back upon me. I whisper to her good morning as she lovingly responds back. We stay like this for a little bit more before Amber decides to get up and make some coffee, with me following her to the kitchen to prepare the coffee machine.
"Once again Bruno, thanks so much for staying with me," she says to me, the thankfulness in her eyes shining upon me.
Does she feel it too?
"No problem Amber," I respond.
I begin to take out a box from my pocket, which contains the gift I was supposed to give to her last night, if it wasn't for Charlie. It's a necklace shaped like a music note surrounded by a heart.
"What is this?" Amber smiles as she walks up to me and asks.
"This is a gift for you for being a great friend to me ever since I moved here. It's what I came here to drop off. You have no idea how grateful I am that I met you Amber," I proclaim.
"Aww, oh my gosh, Bruno. This is too much," she responds as she hugs me.
"I know how much you love music, as do I. This is a token of my appreciation," I say.
I smile back in return as we continue to wrap our arms around each other, essentially snuggling in each other's grasps. She removes the necklace from the box and then wraps it around her neck, smiling at me once more.
She then walks over to prepare cinnamon coffee (yum) and pours it into two cups, offering me one. We sit at the table near the window, admiring the view as we sip.
"Hey, I don't work at the cafe today and I'm ahead of my copywriting work. Would you wanna do anything today?" Amber asks. I can see she's still shaken up from last night. Who can blame her, poor thing.
"Yeah, of course! Wanna come over to my apartment? I could show you some music I've been working on."
"Yeah! Sounds awesome! I guess I'll be getting a sneak peek of the rising popstar Bruno Mars' unreleased music," she describes in a fun tone.
"Haha, nice," I respond back. "But listen, about Charlie, I really think you should report this... tell the owner of the apartment building and even the police. Get a restraining order or something," I assert.
"No, I definitely will. I just wanna get my mind off that and hangout with you first," she responds.
"No problem."
...
Amber and I are sitting on the couch on my balcony whilst I show her the song I've been working on, "Young Girls" with my guitar.
She looks so happy as she listens to me sing as we admire our relaxing surroundings as the music fills the contrasting busy-like urban atmosphere with a sense of peace.
As I finish singing the song, she lovingly smiles and begins to clap.
"That's literally so good, Bruno! You have so much potential, I swear," she responds with cheer.
"Thanks so much! I always love to write my music in quiet, peaceful surroundings. This balcony is actually where I wrote most of this song," I respond.
"Well, it definitely works," she smiles.
"Yep. I'm planning on putting this song on my next album, whenever that comes out," I smile, getting excited to write my next album.
"Believe me, I'll be first in line to buy it," she says.
"I appreciate it!"
We sit in silence for a bit as we sneak glances at each other. I know she feels the same way. I just don't wanna try anything right now. It's not the right time.
"So, what are your plans for when you return to LA?" Amber asks.
"Well, I'm just enjoy the holidays whilst also preparing for my world tour, to be honest. Nothing big. Although I may be going to Times Square for New Year's Eve, I'm not sure yet. I really want to, though. It would work out perfectly as well, since I'll be in Philly the month after."
"Oh my gosh, being in Times Square for NYC sounds awesome! I've done that in the past, and was actually thinking about doing it this year as well. It really is an exciting feeling, seeing the ball drop in person and all," she smiles as she ponders upon the wondrous memory.
"Yeah, we're definitely city people," I replied laughingly.
"Mhm," she laughs. "I've never been to LA, although I'd love to go."
"To be honest, I prefer Philly. LA is just too fake, as much as it's important that I live there due to my career, Philly is just more real and filled with a kind of love that LA doesn't have," I explain.
"Oh wow. Yeah, Philly definitely is a great city," she responds.
"Yep! It's even better now that I have you to experience it with," I respond in a friendly manner, not wanting to sound too flirty, especially after what happened last night.
Amber blushes. "Why, thank you. You as well," she smiles.
The wind around us whips our surroundings as Fall begins to embark on its journey embedding itself around us.
"This Fall weather is so nice. Speaking of which, Chloe and I were actually making pumpkin cakes at the cafe last night," Amber explains.
"Oh wow, awesome! I've gotta try it," I smile.
"Yeah, it's awesome," she responds. "How's your family doing, by the way?"
"Ah, they're okay. They called me the other day and asked me how I liked the city. Told them I loved it," I responded with a smile.
Speaking of which, I should really call my family more. I've just been so hung up on my career and such that I unfortunately haven't been paying too much attention to my family or friends back home. I make a promise to myself to call them soon. After all, I come from a cultural background that declares that familial honor is important.
"That's good." she smiles. What a beautiful smile she has. A moment of silence passes by once more.
"Hey look, if you ever want to talk about it I'm here. I just want you to know that assault is never the victim's fault. Just let yourself know that it will all be okay in the end, alright? You're strong, Amber. Remember that."
"Aww, Bruno. You're so sweet. Thank you. I'll keep that in mind."
She walks over to me and pulls me in an embrace, then slowly pulls back and smiles at me once more.
"Wanna watch a movie or something?" I ask.
"Oh yeah, sure! Let's see what's on TV."
We walk over to the living room and we scroll, until we eventually settle on Mulan. I find out that we both love Disney movies. Damn, we really have a lot in common.
We eventually finish the movie, and then Amber says that she has to go back to the apartment just to have some time to herself. I walk her back as she thanks me once more.
As I head back to my apartment, I ponder upon how thankful I am that I saved my friend from such a dangerous situation, in addition to promising to her that I would always help her in times of need. That's what friends are for, aren't they?
I just hope that one day she'll be more.
