It's been around a week since Thanksgiving, and Dahlia and I had a blast. We watched football, ate dinner and had dessert together all at my apartment. From what Bruno told me, he had a great time too, getting to spend time with some of his siblings and his parents, all reuniting. Ah, the holidays are so beautiful.
I'm currently home, in my pajamas working on some copywriting work. It's a cloudy day; no sunlight, just clumps of cloudy skies resting above. I can't believe what Bruno told me about him finding Annika in bed with another man. What a bitch. But then again, as much as it may sound selfish, the end of their relationship led to the beginning of Bruno and I's relationship. And besides, I could tell he wasn't happy with her anyway. It's better to lose someone who's bad for you than to have them be in your life as a toxic force causing misery.
I told Dahlia everything about what happened between Bruno and I that night after Crystal and her left, in addition to our upcoming NYC trip. She supports us 100%, as long as we can make it work during his tour. I've started planning out Bruno and I's trip. We're obviously not staying that long, but we both know for a fact that we obviously want to see the ball drop, the Empire State Building, and Times Square, which is luckily all next to each other. And then we'll be going back to Philly on January 3rd, where we'll both be staying at his place until January 9th, when he'll be leaving for his upcoming concerts.
As I'm typing up on my laptop doing work for my job, my phone rings, and it's my mom. I haven't talked to her in so long... I wonder what's going on. I pick up the phone and answer the call.
"Hola, Amber! I hope you're doing well, I know it's been awhile. Listen, I have a lot to tell you. When would it be possible for you to come over?"
"Well, I'm doing some work right now but I'll be done in around an hour. Don't tell me Alex is there."
"He's not... that's actually what I wanted to talk to you about."
No way...
"Okay. I'll be there in an hour," I quote a bit excitedly, questioning why my asshole stepdad isn't there.
"See you then, mijita!"
I hang up the phone and finish out the rest of my copywriting work for the day. I look at the clock and it's 1:05 PM, and I henceforth throw on some jeans and a sweatshirt, grab my keys, and drive over to my mom's house.
...
I pull into the driveway and see that Alex's car isn't there... But I do see Dahlia's car. I guess my mom called up Dahlia first. I never received any texts from Dahlia though. What's going on?
I walk in the door, knowing that I haven't even seen my mom since Labor Day. She answers the door and pulls me in a large embrace, in which I return. Dahlia walks over as well, welcoming me and smiling, with me hugging her as well.
"It's been so long, mijita" my mom quotes.
"Yes, I know," getting a bit sad.
"Come over to the living room. We have a lot to talk about," she gestures me over to the living room, while I look at Dahlia, who looks very happy.
We all get situated on the couch, where my mom breaks the silence.
"Alex and I are divorced."
"No way??? Really???" I ask, getting excited, Dahlia smiling.
"Yes... I know I was wrong throughout all these years of not listening to you girls sooner, but after all he's done to me, how he's destroyed my relationship with my kids, and how in the last few months of our marriage he became physically abusive, I knew it was time to call it quits." He was physically hurting her? That son of a bitch...
