August 26th, 2010

The sunlight's rays terminate my slumber, kissing my figure awake; the dawn of the city commences my day. Did last night actually happen? Did I really meet the Bruno Mars at a vendor by Electric Auras on a Friday night? It just can't be... it must be the alcohol.

But no. It actually happened.

My legs swing over the side of the bed, a yawn and a stretch escaping my body. I grab my charging phone off the nightstand and check my photos, seeing me in my red bodycon dress with Bruno Mars' arm wrapped around my waist, along with the slip of paper with his name engraved in its fibers next to my bed.

Holy shit.

I met a rising popstar at a vendor outside Electric Auras and now he just may be coming to my job.

Damn. I must be good.

I decide that I want to relax today, but first, I head over to the balcony to admire the wonders of the city dawn; my arms resting upon the ledge to take in the breeze, wisping across my face. I close my eyes to take in the irresistibility of the city morning genesis, pondering about the events of last night. I think about my conversation with him, and I can't believe the guy whose music video I was watching actually lives down the street from me now, in addition to his uncle living in the same building as me. Oh my gosh. It's a shame Amari couldn't see him... I should tell her what happened. Let me do my morning routine first.

My legs drag me over to the bathroom, the cool tile floors and shiny mirror hugging my presence. I grab the soap and rub my face, subsequently brushing my teeth and swishing mouthwash. I then brush my messy chestnut hair, then go back to my room to change into some sweatpants and an old t-shirt. Thankfully it's a Saturday. I need a break from all the events of the week. Thank God for weekends, seriously.

My body drags me over back to my phone to call Amari, my fingers swiping their way across the screen. I press Amari's name, phoning her.

The rings buzz their way through the audio, but she eventually picks up.

"Hey, Amari! I hope everything went well last night. I have some news," I say with a giggle, unexpectedly.

"Heyyy! Thanks for calling bestie. Yeah, everything's good. My little brother had food poisoning. But don't worry, he'll be fine," she replies.

"Glad he's gonna be okay. Uh, listen... After you left, I went to a street vendor, and you won't believe who I ran into."

"Who?"

"Bruno Mars."

"WHAT?? No way. That rising popstar on the charts? That guy who sings Just the Way You Are?"

"Mhm."

"HOLY SHIT! Damn, I never should've left. Did you take any pictures with him or anything?"

"Yes I did. I got his autograph too. He said he got an apartment here that he'll be staying in part time."

"All right. First, send me that pic. Second of all, A HOT CELEBRITY IS LIVING DOWN THE STREET FROM YOU?"

"I guess you can say that. I also invited him to the cafe since he said he was looking for eateries" I respond laughingly.

"Oh my word. Girl, you're so lucky. Let me know when I can meet him if possible!" she excitedly exclaims.

"I surely will Amari. I had a great time last night" I reply with a smile.

"Me too. But I would've had a better time if I met Bruno Mars. Fuck," she responds.

"Haha. All right. I'll talk to you later girl," I say.

"All right. See ya," she says.

"Bye!"

I decide to unwind a bit and make some pancakes. I've always loved to make breakfast foods; something about the morning just gives the perfect vibe for a new beginning. I go over to the kitchen in my cabinets to grab some pancake mix, and decide to throw in some caramel chocolate chips in there.

I grab a wooden spoon and mix the pancake mix with water, eventually grabbing a ladle and pouring it out on the pans, the mix bubbling with me flipping over the pancakes; the lovely aroma filling my nostrils.

When the pancakes are done, I put them on a plate and open the fridge, grabbing some whipped cream with strawberry syrup on top to put on my pancakes. I realize that I should definitely go grocery shopping. I need some more stuff for breakfast and lunch; maybe I'll go after lunchtime that way I won't be too hungry whilst grocery shopping. Working at the cafe has definitely done me well when it comes to creativity in meals.

I sit at the coffee table, gobbling up the pancakes. When I'm finished, I bring the plates over to the sink and thereupon decide to watch the news just to check the weather. Weather can be pretty crazy when it comes to the transition of the end of summer and the commencement of Fall.

Nonetheless, my phone rings, interrupting my thoughts, and my head turns over to the repetitive noise. My mom is calling; I haven't talked to her in awhile due to our unfortunate damaged relationship. My hand grabs the phone, and my finger presses the awaiting green button.

"Hi, mom," I say monotonously.

"Hola, mi hija! How have you been? It's been too long..." She expresses.

"Oh, you know. Just been working, the cafe, all the same," I responded with a laugh.

"Well... Labor Day is coming up and I'd like to invite you over to the barbecue," she tells me.

"Ah right, yes! Of course I'll come," I articulate.

"Listen, mijita, I know our relationship has not been the best, but I would like to work things out. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I know you and Alex don't get along, but let's try not to let that affect us. We were so close-"

"You know the truth, mom. That's all I have to say." Gosh, why is she staying with that jerk? But hey, at least I get to see my sister Dahlia at the get-together. We don't hangout as much anymore, unfortunately.

"Okay, Amber. I'll see you there."

"Bye mom," I hang up. Why does it have to be this way? Why can't she just understand I don't like the way the family is going?

I go back to watching the news, and a certain heading gleams my eyes.

Rising pop star Bruno Mars is going on tour for his new album Doo-Wops & Hooligans! It will be worldwide, but he will be performing in America first, and then all over the world.

Oh my gosh, I thought. I definitely wanna come whenever he's performing in Philadelphia.

All better get their tickets now! The tour starts January 6th, and they're already selling out. The first three cities he will be performing in are Philadelphia, New York, and Chicago.

With fate's will, I'll be there.
