September 20th, 2010

I'm back in the cafe kitchen, making some honey vanilla cakes with whipped buttercream frosting and chocolate caramel drizzle, which is one of our early Fall specials; its aroma penetrating my senses. I've always loved to bake in this cafe. I mean don't get me wrong, being a barista is nice too, but baking definitely hits the spot. Ugh, I can't wait for our classic Fall desserts. Our pumpkin cake with cinnamon cream cheese frosting is the bomb.

Everyone is back from the shore, and customers are piling up the doors. But hey, that means more business for us. I'm glad I got to rekindle with my mom and Dahlia. I'll try to keep in touch with my mom more. As for my stepdad, he can kindly be erased from my memory.

"AMBER! Can you make some more red velvet cupcakes? We have an order!" Constance calls out from the back.

"Of course, yes!" I scramble over to the cake mix whilst watching the honey vanilla bases in the oven.

I spend the next hour or so in the back of the cafe baking, whilst Chloe delivers me orders, and I gladly whip up the desserts for them to be put in the front. As much as I do love baking, it can definitely be tiring when we run out and things have to be made again.

When my break comes, I take off my apron and head over to one of the booths, already exhausted, sitting down. I decide to pull out my phone and I gladly see a text from Bruno that he sent around an hour ago.

Bruno:

Hey Amber! Hope your Labor Day get together went well. I was wondering if we could hang out this Saturday. Lemme know 🙂

Me:

Of course, yes. How about we meet around 12 and grab some lunch, then after that I could give you a tour of the city? 🤪

Bruno:

That sounds awesome! That's actually what I was gonna ask you 😂

Me:

Damn, great minds think alike I guess 😂

Bruno:

Awesome! How bout we meet at my apartment's lobby?

Me:

Sounds good! Looking forward to it.

Bruno:

Awesome 😎

I'm hanging out with Bruno Mars this weekend.

And I'm giving him a tour of my city.

I'm definitely on the luck train.

I should definitely tell Amari, that way I can surprise her by meeting Bruno. I'll text her when I get home.

"Amber! You're on barista duty for the rest of the day," Constance calls out to me, whilst I'm still smiling about my upcoming hangout.

"Coming!" I reply.

I happily walk over to Chloe, getting to work with her the rest of the day.

"I'm really looking forward to our Fall desserts. You're doing a great job with the baking, Amber. Just the smell of those cakes made me wanna swallow the entirety of our dessert section!" Chloe laughingly proclaims.

"Thank you so much! It really means a lot. It's so nice getting to bake here." I reply.

"Yeah. Hey, did you hear what happened to Charlie?" She asks.

"No, why?"

"I heard that he flipped out at some dude at the bar and threatened him about his friend or something. Don't know who it was though."

"What?? That doesn't sound like him," I reply, confused, getting ready to fill up the creamers.

"Well, I heard it from one of my friends who works at those street vendors. She went inside the nightclub to get a break. She didn't get a glimpse of who the man Charlie was flipping out at was, but yeah, Charlie was being obnoxious." She walks over to fill up our French vanilla coffee machine.

"Hmm. You know what? I'll try to be more wary of him. He even tried telling me that his aunt told him stuff about Bruno's alleged shady past, consisting of some womanizing and drug crap."

"Damn. For real? I did hear he has an aunt that works in the music industry. But you know what? Charlie always kinda gave me the shady vibe, definitely not Bruno," she laughs.

"Yeah. It's so weird. And he even told me to not talk to him anymore."

"Sorry to sound harsh, but Charlie probably just wants to get in bed with you. We know how much of a womanizer Charlie is."

"Yeah, I know... I'll try to stay away. Especially after what you told me."

"Good." She responds, getting ready to make some new orders as the customers pour in through the doors.

As I'm getting to make a dark chocolate caramel macchiato, my head turns over to Constance heading out from the back with advertising posters and heads over to the front of the cafe, putting them up on the wall. We do believe that here at Cafe Amore small businesses should be advertised and promoted more. We also typically put up posters that deal with local events.

One of the shiny metallic black and gold posters catches my eye. It reads:

Urban Indulgence Apartments

Meet-n-Greet Gala!

Due to the influx of so many new individuals to our apartment complex, we have decided to hold a gala on the rooftop of the night of October 28th, 2010.

Food, fun, and games!

Damn. I always knew Urban Indulgence Apartments held rooftop party events. They're allegedly fun as fuck.

But now that place means something a bit more to me, due to Bruno's residence there.

Will he be going?
