Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.
Luke 6:28 (NLT)
Sadly, it comes naturally to people to curse. If we fail someone, their gut reaction is to curse us. Jesus commands us to bless those who curse us however.
Naturally, when people curse us, we want to curse them back. Jesus commands us to be the change we want to see in the world. If we want people to undeservedly bless us, we should undeservedly bless them.
Inevitably, we hurt one another, even without intending to do so, oftentimes. Our reaction when hurt ought to be to pray for those who hurt us. We can pray for justice, like the old testament often reminds us.
The new testament would encourage us to pray for forgiveness and reconciliation with those who hurt us. It's easier said than done. Yet that is the Jesus Way: the One who said 'Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they do' even when they crucified Him.
'Blessed God, thank You for blessing us. We praise You for Jesus's intercession. Please help us to go and do likewise. For the honour of Your name, amen'
