Chapter 9: Persuading Miao Jun
Miao Zhiruo wanted to say something, but she bit her tongue and swallowed it back, continuing to pedal her bicycle forward, pondering whether to go back and file a complaint.
Song Yimo knew she was worried about herself, feeling warm in her heart, "Miao Miao, you have to trust me, I won't do anything bad."
Miao Zhuo Ruo rolled her eyes at the sky. She wasn't worried about her doing something bad, she was worried about losing out after taking someone else's money. There are no free lunches in this world. Mo Mo is good at everything, but she is too naive. She really thinks that the world is full of good people. She knows that she shouldn't talk to strangers, let alone take money from strangers.
Song Yimo indeed believed that there were more good people in the world. She had personally experienced it. But after living for more than ten years, how could she be so naive?
She just wanted to see things in a simple way. She had been living like this for several years, and it hadn't made her life worse. Now she still wanted to live this way.
Arriving at the Miao family's house, a petite old lady with silver hair welcomed them at the door, looking energetic and in good spirits.
"Oh, Yimo is here! Come in, it's hot. Grandma made mung bean soup and chilled it in the fridge. It's perfect to drink cold. Hurry in," Miao Grandma said enthusiastically as she pulled them inside.
Everyone in this area loved the obedient and fair-skinned Song Yimo. Whenever someone saw her, they wanted to give her something to eat. When she was young, they never had to buy candy at home. She could always bring back two full bags of candy just by going out, and her hands would still be full.
Miao Zhiruo grumbled as she threw her school bag aside, "I knew it. As soon as Mo Mo comes, I lose my place completely. Grandma, am I still your granddaughter?!"
"I have no grandson, only a granddaughter," Grandma Miao chuckled as she pushed away the person leaning on her back. "Sweating so much, go wipe your face. Mo Mo, you should go too."
Miao Mother, a fiery woman not much taller than Grandma Miao, came out of the kitchen upon hearing the commotion and greeted Song Yimo with a smile, "Yimo, stay here for dinner. Mama made your favorite braised pork ribs."
"Thank you, Mama Miao."
Miao Mother wanted to hug and pat her, but since she smelled of oil from cooking, she refrained.
Miao Zhiruo handed a towel to Song Yimo with resentment and said, "Thank goodness you didn't agree to be my mom's daughter, otherwise, I wouldn't have a place in this house!"
With the towel covering her face, Song Yimo smiled. Even if she was liked, she was not Miao's daughter. Even if she wanted to be, she was just someone else's child. She was never naughty, had good grades, and all the adults liked her. If one day she stopped being the exemplary child they liked, their affection would fade too. It's not the same as with their own children.
Of course, even biological children could not be spoiled. She couldn't earn the approval of her own parents no matter how much everyone else liked her.
Miao Jun's voice came from outside, and Miao Zhiruo ran off as soon as she threw the towel aside. "Dad, Mo Mo is here."
Song Yimo hung up the towel before going out. "Miao Dad."
The taciturn man smiled, "You're here."
Miao Mama poked her head out from the kitchen. "Set the table, dinner's ready."
The meal was abundant, and Miao Mother kept serving Song Yimo. Grandma Miao also picked up a few pieces from time to time. Song Yimo was focused on eating, her cheeks puffing up like a little frog, which made Miao Jun couldn't help but put a piece of ribs into her bowl.
Miao Zhiruo was envious to the core as she directly pushed the bowl in front of her father, and Miao Jun laughed and served her a few pieces.
After cleaning up the table, Song Yimo walked up to Miao Jun. "Miao Dad, I need your help with something."
Miao Jun put down the newspaper and gestured for her to sit across from him. "What is it?"
"I want to buy a computer."
A computer was still considered a luxury item in the present day. Families with average financial conditions wouldn't buy one, and the situation in the Song family was even worse.
Buying a computer...
Miao Jun furrowed his brow, about to speak, but Miao Mother came over and sat next to Song Yimo, taking over the conversation. "You don't need to buy one, I have one here. I don't use it much, so if you want to use it, just come over."
Miao Jun glanced at his wife. She thought that Song Yimo just wanted to play some games and get bored, but he knew that Song Yimo wasn't a playful person. With her usual maturity, she should know that this was not a small amount of money.
"Don't speak. Yimo, tell me, what do you need the computer for?"
"To make money," Song Yimo's voice increased when it came to money. "Miao Dad, I'm confident that I won't waste this money, I will earn it back."
Miao Jun shook his head, "Yimo, you can't persuade me like this."
Song Yimo thought for a moment. "I need it to use."
Miao Jun got up and took her to the study. Miao Mother stopped Miao Zhiruo who wanted to follow and stared at her, "What are you doing? Go do your homework."
"Mom..."
"Behave yourself, you can't help with Yimo's affairs." Miao Mama sighed.
She had grown up with Song Yimo and their relationship had always been good. She had tried to advise her on many occasions, but it only resulted in less and less contact. Apart from looking after Mo Mo a bit more, she couldn't do anything else.
