Chapter 76

As the New Year approached, even the hospital surroundings began to take on a festive atmosphere.

Song Yimo was wrapped up so only her eyes were exposed, darting around alertly as she looked at everything with curiosity, making Zhai Muyang smile uncontrollably.

The two entered a clean and well-lit shop, where Zhai Muyang gestured for her to sit down while he went to order.

Song Yimo looked around as she took off the scarf.

The glass doors and windows, as well as the transparent partitions where the food was being prepared, made her realize why her older brother had brought her here.

Although the prices on the wall were clearly higher than elsewhere, the place was clean.

Zhai Muyang came back with two cups of soy milk and sat down, followed by two busy waiters.

Soon, the table was filled with food.

Two bowls of thick white congee, three plates of side dishes for the congee, three large steamed buns, two egg pancakes, and a small plate of two braised eggs.

"We won't be able to finish all this, Dage."

"Don't worry, we'll take our time."

Song Yimo took a sip of congee, ate some of the side dishes, and glanced around, whispering softly, "It's not as delicious as Grandma's cooking."

"I haven't had pickled vegetables as delicious as Grandma's even after eating out for so many years." Zai Muyang peeled an egg and handed it to her. "If you don't like it, don't eat it. Use this to go with the congee."

Song Yimo wasn't in the habit of leaving leftovers. Even though she was full, she only ate one bowl of congee, one braised egg, one egg pancake, and half a cup of soy milk.

Seeing that she couldn't eat anymore, Zhai Muyang effortlessly finished the two remaining steamed buns, grabbed the breakfast he had bought for Miao Jun, and held her hand as they walked back to the hospital.

The nurses at the sixth floor station watched as the siblings walked hand in hand past them, exchanging glances, but Zhai Muyang's imposing presence kept them from approaching.

Once the two had walked away, someone muttered under their breath, "If only I could have a husband like him, who would dote on his daughter and treat me well too."

Lu Yan overheard and retorted, "Get real. If it came down to it, you'd want a husband who dotes on you first. Alright, get back to work."

The nurses rolled their eyes and kept quiet, each going about their busy schedules.

Lu Yan, on the other hand, took her tools and walked towards the end of the corridor to the ward.

Miao Jun saw her put down the breakfast and got up. "Seems like you're early today."

"The weather is nice today, so I came early to draw blood so Song Yimo can go out and play. Only she can stay calm and patient, someone else would have thrown a fit by now."

Lu Yan walked into the ward and saw the girl had already taken off her coat and rolled up her sleeves, ready for the injection. She couldn't help but smile. "If all patients were as cooperative as you, that would be great."

"I'm not sick, so I'm not emotional."

Lu Yan swiftly and accurately inserted the needle, which didn't hurt much. When Song Yimo turned her head away during the injection, her brother skillfully held her eyes shut, acting in perfect harmony.
