Chapter 44: The Warm Campus
The sound of knocking on the door reverberated just after dinner.
Old Grandma Song smiled knowingly, "I can tell who it is just by the commotion."
Song Yimò rushed to the door, but before she could even unlock it, someone pushed their way in from outside, promptly throwing themselves onto her, exclaiming, "Mòmò, you're finally back."
With some effort, Song Yimò managed to close the door with one hand, patting the person's back as she dragged her inside, remarking, "You're taller and heavier than me, and yet here you are, pretending to crush me."
Cheerfully, Miaò Zhìruò squeezed a bit more before finally letting her feet touch the ground, draped over Song Yimò's shoulders, coquettishly saying, "These past two weeks have been exhausting; only in your absence did I realize how painful it was to copy notes without you."
Old Grandma Song couldn't stop smiling, "Relying solely on copying notes, you really have no ambition."
"Grandma Song, I will definitely make progress by following Yimò." Miaò Zhìruò glanced at the old lady, "You've lost some weight, but you're still looking good. Is your health fully recovered?"
"It's fine, I can't afford to be unwell when Yimò has been through so much," Old Grandma Song lovingly looked at her granddaughter and, leaning on the sofa armrest, slowly got up, "I'll rest in my room for a bit. You two can talk, don't mind me."
Miaò Zhìruò hurried over to help, "Grandma Song, let me assist you."
Given no choice but to accept the assistance, Song Yimò walked to the table and started collecting the bowls and chopsticks to put in the kitchen.
"Mòmò, let me wash."
Like a cannonball, Miaò Zhìruò pushed the person away and rolled up her sleeves, "I didn't help at all in such a big event, my conscience can't rest without doing something."
Song Yimò didn't argue with her and took a cloth to wipe the table, standing next to her to dry the dishes.
"Did our teacher say anything to you?"
"She asked me yesterday when you were coming back, whether you could catch up for the monthly exams. I told her, and she also asked about Grandma Song's condition. I just said she had surgery, nothing serious, and didn't mention anything else."
Wiping off the splashes of water from her face with a tilt of her head on her shoulder, Miaò Zhìruò turned to look at her, "Mòmò, don't stress too much. Missing classes for half a month will definitely have some impact, but your foundation is solid. Even with the missed classes, you can still outperform most of the students in the school."
"Don't say that in class, it'll only breed resentment. They will hate me," Song Yimò smiled as she finished putting away the bowls, "Don't worry, I'll do my best in the exams. If my grades drop, it's okay. I'll catch up next month."
"It seems like I worried for nothing," Miaò Zhìruò muttered while drying her hands, "I brought all the notes. If there's anything you don't remember clearly, just put it aside, I'll borrow them for you from the class monitor."
In this aspect, Song Yimò really didn't feel any pressure. In the time she managed to spare at the hospital, half was spent on writing, and the remaining half was dedicated to her studies. With her solid foundation, the science subjects were almost a breeze, while for the liberal arts, focusing on key points in politics and history would suffice. She had even covered more material than the previous month.
But she accepted her friend's care with gratitude, keeping it tucked away in her heart.
