Chapter 27: Refusing the Senior
After dinner and a chat with her grandma, Song Yimo returned to her room.
She took out the letter from the innermost part of her backpack, opened a drawer, and placed it at the bottom. She wouldn't accept this gesture, but she respected the sender's feelings. Even if she didn't read or accept it, she wouldn't treat it lightly.
After reviewing the day's lessons and completing some practice exercises, Song Yimo turned on her computer to log in to the messaging platform.
Two familiar avatars were blinking.
She clicked on the editor's first.
Wei Chu You Liang: BarelyRich, with your grades, your work can be published mid-month. Do you agree?
After calculating the word count, Song Yimo replied: Not possible, the word count is too low. I promised to add fifty thousand more words. I can't go back on my word.
Zhang Chuliang quickly replied: I guessed you would refuse. I've discussed it with the editor, it will be published on the first of next month. It's better for ranking competitions, so be prepared in advance.
BarelyRich: After it's published, I won't be able to update much. I have a lot of things happening in real life, so I can only promise a steady update.
Zhang Chuliang: If it were anyone else, I would try to persuade them. More updates lead to better results and more readers, but with your circumstances, I can only support your decision.
With a cigarette in his mouth, Zhang Chuliang continued typing: Try to save up some drafts. Good promotions need a breakthrough once it's published.
BarelyRich: Okay, I'll write more during the holidays.
Zhang Chuliang raised an eyebrow: Holidays? Are you a teacher?
"No, I'm a student or rather a high school student who's exhausted," Song Yimo replied in her mind, simply sending an ellipsis over.
Zhang Chuliang tactfully didn't probe further: So far, the quality of your novel has been above average. Keep it up. I hope this book becomes a classic.
BarelyRich: Thank you for your appreciation.
Feeling that her responses were too dry, Song Yimo sent a bowing emoticon: I'll go write now, leave a message if you need anything.
Zhang Chuliang: Keep going.
After dealing with one conversation, Song Yimo turned to the other lively avatar. There were several messages, each one day apart, not intrusive but heartwarming.
Mu Yang: Yimo, are you busy?
Mu Yang: Yimo, how did your midterms go?
Mu Yang: Yimo, it's getting colder, make sure to layer up.
Mu Yang: Yimo, are your studies challenging?
Song Yimo felt her heart warm and a small smile appeared on her face, forming two dimples on her cheeks.
BarelyRich: Zhai Dage, I've been a bit busy with studies lately. My midterms went well, all A's in Science but I struggled in Liberal Arts and got criticized by the teacher.
Almost instantly came the reply: Specializing? Aren't girls usually better in Liberal Arts?
BarelyRich: It's not specializing, I just need to study more Liberal Arts topics.
Zhai Muyang stretched his body and continued typing: Will you focus more on Science in the future?
BarelyRich: Of course, Science takes less time.
