"You haven't joined us for weeks, Jen! Come on," Jisoo pouts as she pleads me to join her and Rosé for a girls' night out.
"My fiancé's younger sister is coming home today, Chu," I said apologetically as I put on my earrings in front of my mirror.
When she crossed her arms, I turned to her and pinched her cheeks, "I'll make it up to you guys this week. I promise."
"You better, Kim. You better," she narrows her eyes at me, "Do you even know Kai's sister?"
"I know her face. I've seen her pictures in their house."
She huffed.
"If they value family ties that much, why let their only daughter live away from them for so long?"
I looked down on my perfectly manicured nails.
"Or it doesn't apply to adopted daughters?"
Frowning, I met Chu's eyes, "Don't say that."
"Are you really sure you're marrying into that family? Jennie, you're not even attracted to him."
I sighed. We're having this conversation again. I know my friends are just looking out for me, but it's not like I could run away from all these responsibilities. My parents decided to marry me off into Kai's family, to merge their companies that we will be inheriting. And I don't have a say on that, unless I want my inheritance off.
Jisoo was tapping her foot impatiently on the floor, shoulders hunched and arms crossed.
"He's gorgeous, Chu."
"Yeah, but you're still not attracted to him. You don't even know him enough. You're not even friends—"
I cut her off sharply.
"It's just marriage. Not a big deal."

I've never been in love.
Maybe that's why it's so easy for me to accept what my parents want.
Maybe Kai will be good for me. I could even learn to love him. Maybe.
I'm not really sure how being in love feels like.
I've had crushes, sure. The kind of attractive that makes you stare at them like a creep.
But never with girls. Just tonight, with Kai's sister. She's gorgeous. Pale and somber... but gorgeous.
She looked out-of-place despite her family looking happy to see her.
Her big, doe eyes were cloudy and detached. When they looked at mine, my grip on my skirt tightened.
Why am I holding my breath?
"She's studying law," Kai tells me. I nodded absent-mindedly. Lisa looks down on her plate after catching my gaze.
"Pleasure to finally meet you, Lisa," I wanted to applaud myself for sounding composed.
"Yeah. Nice to meet you, Jennie."
Her voice was cold.
"The U.S. is doing you good, darlin'. How is it living there?" their mom asks her.
"Good. Hopefully I can come back soon."
