Chapter 55

"Hey Reza welcome- Oh. Mel. Nice to see you." Nyx paused, though there was a very clear, uncomfortable pause as Melisande stepped into the room with Reza.

Nemesis walked in holding Hecate's arm before she released her younger sister and hugged Melisande from the side, getting the devil to flinch and go rigid before glancing at the other woman as she stepped passed and moved over to the table to sit with her family.

"I'm... I'm sorry for intruding. Everything happened so fast and I was invited in and I just- I'm sorry for disturbing your family. I can leave if-"

"If Nemi invited you into her home we have no right to refuse." Nike interrupted. "And we'll honor her decision and yours. You're welcome to join us."

"Seriously, I'll-"

"Mel." Nyx stood up with a warm smile. "Are you okay?"

"W-What?" Melisande paused, blinking at her curiously. "Why... Why do you ask?"

"Because it's not like you to look so broken. Did something happen?"

"I... I don't want to ruin your family get together." Melisande waved them off.

"Hey, even if we don't always see eye to eye, you're Reza's friend, and that makes you part of our family." Eris answered. "Are the Circles fucking with you?"

"What- I- I'm okay- I just... There's a lot going on in the Circles, and... and I don't necessarily agree with them so there's discourse."

The Gods turned and looked towards each other with a look of confusion as Hecate sat back down beside Calypso before turning her chair to look towards Melisande who was examining the confused expressions on everyone's faces.

Nyx turned back to Melisande. "Does it have something to do with Lucifer?"

Melisande blinked a few times before her eyes finally caught Hecate's face again. Her eyes widened and she went to step back only for Reza to grip her arm. "Mel." Reza called.

"You're-"

"No one outside this room knows besides Desdemona and Darcel. We don't know where either Lucifer or Lilith are and have no information on their disappearance or location. We only know that Desdemona had saved her sister in her pocket dimension this entire time." Nyx explained.

Calypso reached over and took Hecate's hand to offer whatever support she could. Melisande looked down at Hecate where she blinked a few more times.

"Why... why are you trusting me with this?" Melisande asked.

"Because Reza trusts you." Nyx answered. "Wouldn't you like to spend your free time enjoying Reza's company and surrounded by people who care about you, instead of fear you? I can tell by the way you're acting right now that something has seriously changed in your personality. Something happened that shook you to your core and you're lost. It's okay to be lost. It's okay to be confused."

"I." Melisande started, clenching her fists as her hair began to smolder. "I am the Former Head of The Circle of Wrath. I am not supposed to be lost!"

"Mel. We want you to be a part of our family. We want to share your time and we want you to be a part of our lives. You make Reza happy because you show her a piece of you that you hide from everyone else. I can't give you permission to return to the school, but I can help you get back there. But you have to earn it by rebuilding trust."

Melisande looked like she went to snap again but she closed her eyes and bit it back, her hair returning to normal. "Sylvia Pendragon said some things to me."
