After lunch, Melisande and Reza headed off towards her room for a much needed conversation. Calypso and Hecate made their way once more into the back garden to wander while Calypso attempted to catch the frogs.
"So, what did you guys talk about?" Calypso asked.
"Who? When I went to get Reza?"
"Yeah. You told me before that Mel sucks and was a total bitch. But she didn't seem like that at all. She seemed like a completely different person from what you described." Calypso answered, releasing Hecate's hand at the croaking of a frog where she crouched down by the pond to listen and try to spot the creature.
Hecate smiled at the sight before continuing. "I was surprised too. I fully expected to head out there and tell Mel where to stick it, but she looked so broken I just couldn't. I'm glad I woke up Nemi for it, and I know everyone else is too. Whatever Sylvia said to her must have really hit home. She showed all of us the version of her she's been showing to Reza this whole time, and it was nice to see it."
"I feel kinda bad for her. It can't be easy to have lived your life one way for thousands of years only to completely change your way of thinking and have to live in a completely different way too." Calypso agreed, watching the surface of the water.
The two of them were silent for a moment where Calypso moved to brace herself as if preparing to pounce on something before Hecate spoke up again.
"Did you see yourself in her?"
Calypso froze before relaxing, turning back towards Hecate as she stood up straight. "It was a little jarring to hear her talk about it. How she lived her entire life for Wrath then... something changed."
"I know you regret it."
"More than you'll ever know. But it's still... It was difficult to hear someone go through the exact same thing, and be the person sitting on the other side who... who's grown. You know? I had no choice but to change because the choice was made for me. I'm happy with who I became now, and I wish I could have told my old self that they were headed down a dark path because maybe I would have woken up sooner. Mel... she has to make that decision for herself, and I think that's going to take a lot from her."
"I think she's going to make a lot of good decisions, and I think she can only improve from here." Hecate nodded.
"Well, you have a fancy new protector looking out for you, so I have to assume things are looking good for you." Calypso chuckled before crouching back down again and looking at the water.
"Hey, I don't think she's going to end up being my Andrea, but it'd be nice to have a few people in my corner. Especially Arch Devils."
"You don't think I'm in your corner?"
"I know you're in my corner, but last I checked you weren't a ruler of an entire Circle of Hell." Hecate chuckled. "To which I am grateful for... Speaking of, did you see their Soul Marks?"
Calypso narrowed her eyes at her.
"Come on! I'm your mate! You won't share with me what you saw?" Hecate asked.
"It's not our secret to tell. I only tell people if they ask, and only if they really deserve it." Calypso answered.
"What if you tell it to me in my thoughts, and we never say it out loud. I'm really good at avoiding telling the truth."
Calypso narrowed her eyes again.
"I would have loved to have said 'I'm a good liar' but that would be a lie, and therefore I couldn't say it without the quotation marks." Hecate grinned. "But you get the idea. I'm really good at avoiding having to tell the truth. So if I know, I just won't say anything."
