Hecate was sitting on the side of the lake, smiling at the occasional ripple across the surface of the usually still water. She was happily waiting as she knew Calypso was certainly enjoying her exploration of the lake bed below.
She watched as Calypso breached the surface, leaping out of the water with a backflip and a wide smile. Her beautiful blue scales reflected sunlight as her bioluminescence glowed brightly. With a large splash, she disappeared under the surface for a few moments before she surfaced closer to the shore.
"Katy! Come swim with me!" She called, waving towards her.
"I'm happy just to watch." Hecate called back. She realized she messed up however when Calypso glared at her. "I can tell that that was not the correct answer."
"Not even a little bit." Calypso answered.
Hecate sighed and stood up where she started taking off her clothes. "I'm comin'. Anything fun down there?"
"I mean, I enjoy just swimming around." Calypso shrugged. "I promise not to let you drown."
"Are we going full under?" Hecate asked as she started wading into the water. "I don't know how I feel about being dragged down to the bottom of a lake by a Mermaid. I feel like that's how you get eaten."
"You'd deserve it." Calypso retorted with a chuckle, offering her hand to Hecate who happily took it as she got closer. The mermaid had moved closer towards the edge of the water so they were still able to stand where they were. However Calypso slowly started making her way backwards, not releasing the hybrid's hand. Clearly giving her all the time in the world to refuse.
Instead Hecate summoned her magic with her free hand, waving it over her face where a semi-transparent shimmer of magic collected above her mouth and nose. As the two of them dropped under the water, a bubble of air appeared over Hecate's mouth and nose, allowing her to breathe as normal.
"Just so you know, I'm dirtying these undies and bra for you, so you better love me for it." Hecate warned her.
"You can clean them and dry them out with magic. Stop complaining." Calypso scoffed.
"You're so insensitive to my plight." Hecate scoffed. "How dare you."
Calypso's feet left the silt covered bottom of the lake, causing a small cloud to rise up from where she jumped. Hecate watched as her tail folded against her legs like she had seen a hundred times before she swam ahead a bit, still holding onto Hecate's arm and dragging her with her as she began to swim deeper into the lake.
"If anything happens let me know and I'll take you to the surface okay?" Calypso told her.
"Yes ma'am." Hecate nodded in agreement, kicking her legs like she was trying to keep up with Calypso, but she knew her feeble human limbs could never compare to the powerful tail of a mermaid.
The water of the lake wasn't crystal clear so she could only see about thirty or so feet out. There was a large amount of plant life like reeds, kelp-like strands that rose up, and algae that gave off the appearance of an underwater forest. Large branches and rocks were also scattered around the lake bed creating this unique and almost eerie atmosphere.
However as they were swimming, Hecate could hear a high pitched chirping sound that caused her to flinch every so often. Each time she heard it, she watched as Calypso's fins around her head opened wide, and she slowed a bit as if searching or listening for something. Hecate obviously knew the sound was Calypso's echolocation, so she could only smile and watch.
"You can't see anything either can you?" Hecate called.
"I see everything." Calypso answered.
"You can't see anything. You're using sound."
