-Chapter Thirty Six-
When you said you love me.

"It's good you're here," Scott said without looking up from his laptop, fingers typing rapidly.

Kenzie flopped down beside him on the couch, stretching her legs across the cushions like she owned the place—which, in a way, she did.

"I wanted to talk to you about something," he added, finally glancing her way.

Kenzie ignored his serious tone, grabbed the remote from the table, and flicked on the TV. She reached for his cup of tea and took a long, dramatic sip.

Scott narrowed his eyes. "Still as mannerless as ever. Marriage clearly didn't do a thing."

Kenzie smirked, licking her lips just to annoy him. "Did you really think the Jeons could tame me?" she asked, tossing her hair back.

"Nah. I'm not a pet. I build my own personality from scratch. Custom made. Unbreakable."

She took another sip for emphasis, looking proud of herself.

Scott snorted. "Custom made, huh? Right. Just like your annoying attitude."

Her smile didn't quite reach her eyes, and Scott caught it. "You and Jungkook fought again?"

Kenzie didn't answer—her smirk dissolved instantly, replaced with a hard stare at the screen.

Scott sighed. "That obvious, huh?"

Kenzie shot back without missing a beat. "Did you and Stella fight?"

He blinked. "What makes you say that?"

"I've seen you," she said, her voice quieter now.

"At the Jeon mansion late nights. Picking up Melody. Dropping her off. When I ask her about it, she says she was out with friends. She never mentions you. Not once."

Scott's jaw flexed. For a second, something like regret flickered in his eyes. "Kenzie... It's actually about that. A month ago, I went to California and—"

The doorbell rang, cutting him off mid-sentence.

Scott groaned, stood up, and went to the door.

Standing outside was Finn, arms full of flower bouquets and gift bags that looked like they belonged in a rom-com.

"Wow," Scott quipped, "it's your first day back at college and you're already getting love bombs?"

Finn rolled his eyes. "They were at the door when I came up," he said, holding up a card. "From Jungkook."

Kenzie's heart dropped like a stone into her stomach. "What?" she choked, shooting up from the couch.

Finn glanced through one of the bags. "There are so many notes in here. What did your husband get you, Kinz? A reconciliation starter pack?"
