-Chapter Forty Four-
Everything that belonged to the Zade legacy.

Kenzie rested her head against Jungkook's bare chest, their bodies tangled in the sheets and quiet breaths filling the air.

Jungkook's fingers wandered slowly, gently, until they brushed over the small jagged scar just beneath her collarbone.

He paused. His thumb circled it once, then again, as if trying to memorize the wound like it was part of him.

"What's this from?" he asked, his voice low and husky.

Kenzie exhaled a slow breath, her fingers absentmindedly circling over his chest. "I was shot," she said quietly, the words tasting bitter on her tongue.

Jungkook's body tensed beneath her. He leaned up slightly, eyes searching her face. He didn't expect her to say it so easily.

Is she finally going to admit it?

Will she confess the truth she has been hiding from me?

"How?"

She gave a faint shrug. "It's all a blur now. Our house was attacked... a gang tried to kidnap me. Scott and Finn were fighting them off. Everything happened so fast. In the chaos, I was shot. I didn't even feel it until I saw the blood."

Jungkook looked at the scar again like it was something sacred and horrifying all at once. His thumb grazed it with a softness that made her chest ache.

"Does it still hurt?"

Kenzie gave a small, tired smile. "Not anymore. Physically, it healed. But... It's a reminder."

He was silent for a beat, then whispered, "What reminder?"

"To find out who did all that," she replied without hesitation.

"How long ago was this?"

"Almost three years."

He sat up slightly, cupping her face between his hands. His thumb traced her cheek, his eyes full of an emotion she hadn't seen in him before — not clearly, not this raw.

"Kenzie," he whispered, "I want to know everything about you. Not just the smiles, or the anger. I want your soul. Your truths. Your scars. All of it."

She leaned forward and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Then learn," she whispered.

His hand moved to her jaw, thumb tracing the edge of her lips like he was trying to paint her into memory.

"Tell me," he said suddenly, "what's your happiest memory?"

Kenzie's eyes softened, and her lashes fluttered shut. "It was a summer evening," she began slowly, "at the beach with my family. The sky was in the shade of pink and orange. Mama and Papa danced barefoot on the sand while we laughed like idiots, singing loud off-key songs. It was the last time we were together... before everything fell apart."
