The morning sun filtered softly through the sheer curtains, casting warm, golden hues across the room, illuminating Ruhanika's world with gentle light. As she moved through her morning routine, the comforting familiarity of her surroundings offered a sense of peace. She swept her long, dark hair back, gathering it into a loose braid that cascaded over her shoulder. After washing her face, she stood up straight and caught her reflection in the mirror.
However, today was different. Her skin appeared paler than usual, and a wave of dizziness washed over her, forcing her to grip the edge of the sink to steady herself. Unease settled in her stomach, and a subtle fatigue weighed heavily on her shoulders, making her feel more drained than her normal self.
"What's going on?" she murmured, scrutinizing herself closely in the mirror. She tried to brush off the discomfort, attributing it to a poor night's sleep or perhaps the excitement from the family gathering the night before. But then another thought struck her-a realization that quickened her pulse and made her heart race.
"I'm... late," she whispered, the words hanging in the air like an uninvited guest. Time seemed to slow, her thoughts spiralling as her heartbeat echoed in her ears. Mentally, she counted back the days, double-checking her memory, desperately hoping she hadn't overlooked anything. The possibility seemed almost impossible, yet it loomed before her, undeniable.
A swirl of emotions surged within her-hope, nervousness, and an overwhelming sense of excitement that threatened to bubble over. The more she considered the possibility, the more real it felt, and soon her hands began to tremble. An immediate impulse to reach for her phone surged within her; she longed to call Abhinav, to share her feelings and hear his voice reassure her. But then reality struck-he wasn't here. He was away on a celebratory trip with the other men in the family, honouring his brother Abhimaan's recent business award.
With a soft laugh, she realized just how much she missed him, especially now, when she needed him the most. "I can't let myself spiral into this alone," she murmured, pressing her palm over her heart to steady the rapid beat. "I have to be sure."
Determined, Ruhanika slipped into the kitchen, where the aroma of breakfast wafted through the air. She grabbed her purse and told her sister Sanyukta she'd be stepping out for a little while. Ruhanika barely shared any details, but Sanyukta noticed the slight tremor in her sister's demeanor.
