"Why were you late today?" An ear-piercing voice shattered the morning tranquility, stabbing through Ruhanika's thoughts. The voice, dripping with mockery and disdain, belonged to none other than her mother. "And why do you have to go to the temple daily as if your god will listen to you? Or did you lie to us about going to the temple?"

Ruhanika took a deep breath, striving to maintain her composure. "I go to the temple. This is none of your concern. I am not neglecting any of my duties, so why are you troubled?" Her voice was calm, but irritation simmered beneath the surface.

Her mother's eyes narrowed, her annoyance palpable. "Because your Bhabhi is pregnant, and you very well know that she can't do the household work," she snapped. "You think your temple visits are more important than your responsibilities here?"

Ruhanika clenched her fists, feeling the familiar frustration rise within her. She had just come from a place of peace and solace, only to be met with hostility and criticism. "I handle my duties," she replied, her voice edged with defiance. "Going to the temple is something I do for myself, for my peace. It doesn't mean I'm neglecting anything here."

Her mother's face twisted in anger. "Your duties should come first! We all have to make sacrifices, Ruhanika. Your Bhabhi needs rest, and you're supposed to pick up the slack."

Ruhanika bit back a retort, knowing it would only escalate the argument. Instead, she took a deep breath, trying to diffuse the tension. "I'll take care of everything, Mother. I always do."

But even as she spoke the words, a part of her seethed at the injustice. Her temple visits were her only sanctuary, the one place where she found a semblance of peace. Yet here, in her own home, that peace was shattered by relentless demands and expectations. As she turned away to start her chores, a silent vow formed in her heart. One day, she would find a way to balance her duties and her need for inner peace. One day, she would carve out a space for herself in this unforgiving world.
