you knew my father?

Pae's POV 

 Kai is mad at me. 

I woke up in the cell with Mak so the trial for today must have been canceled. when I woke up Kai was standing against the wall of the cell with his arms crossed looking down at me and Mak. me and Mak both looked up at him and he looked pissed. "are you two fucking stupid?" he asked "good on you for killing that bitch but you couldn't have waited until the trial today? you have no idea how pissed my brother is and you have no idea what I had to just to get you two out of being tortured" he sighed and started shaking his head. 

"Kai I'm-" I tried to apologize but he cut me off. 

"I already unlocked your hand cuffs so get out and go to your rooms. The healers will be there soon to make sure you don't get sick from the rust on the hand cuffs." he said all that without looking at us and an imperial took us back to our rooms without a word. 

I went back to my room and changed out of my dress from last night and now I am sitting on my bed looking out the window while I wait for the healers to come help with my hands that are red from the rust cuffs. 

there is a knock at the door before an older man with gray hair comes in. "hello my dear, my goodness you have grown since last time I saw you" he says sweetly as he comes into the room and closes the door. 

"excuse me? have we met before?" I am very confused. 

"oh yes, my name is Owen and I knew your father. you probably don't remember me but I remember you. you were very small the last time we met" he walks over and sits on the bed taking my hands into his as he looks at the red marks on my wrists. 

"you knew my father?" I ask

"yes, we were good friends. he never stopped talking about you. you were his pride and joy. when I started working here we didn't talk as much but we still wrote each other letters. when I heard that he had passed I helped a few other men in the slums bury him" he says the last part quietly and soon after I feel a tingling feeling in my hands as he heals them to make sure I don't have rust poisoning. 

when Owen stands up to leave Kai opens the door and comes in. "thank you" I tell Owen and he nods and bows to Kai before walking out the door closing it behind him. 

I look at Kai. he is standing against the wall looking at the door with his arms crossed. "Kai are you-" 

"you could have been tortured or worse. do you understand that?" he looks at me. "you aren't supposed to even hurt the other people doing these damn trials and you killed-" her sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose closing his eyes for a second before crossing his arms again and looking at me. "you pissed off the king. more than he already was. he could snap his fingers and you would be killed in an instant; he is not the kind of person you piss off Pae" I try to say something but he just cuts me off again. "I can't lose you. I want you to know that I would have no say in the matter if Kitt wanted you dead. I would have to live without you and I can't do that. Pae I wouldn't ever want to live like that. all alone and... I'm not saying that you can't be yourself but please just be careful" 

I stand up, walk over to him and I hug him tightly, burying my head in his chest. I feel his arms around me and his cheek rest on the top of my head. "I'm so sorry" I whisper "I will try to be more careful. its just she really pissed me off and... I didn't know what else to do. I didn't think and I am sorry" 

"its ok" he pulls my face away from his chest with his fingers holding my chin. he kisses me softly before resting his forehead against mine. "no more killing people unless it is the trials ok?" 

"no more killing people unless its the trials" I agree 

"promise?" 

"I promise" I whisper before I kiss him. he pulls back from the kiss and looks around the room. "what's wrong?" 

he looks back down at me with a small smile. "nothing I just thought I felt Volt nearby but it's nothing. someone probably just walked by the room."  he says before kissing me again.
