JAX’S POV 01

"Lola, Mama broke the soccer ball you gave me. She said that playing sports is not good for me. I got the highest score in math but Mama said that I should not do it next time. She said that I will receive punishment if I get a high score again. She also slapped my hand and tore my exam paper. Lola, don't my parents love me?"

This is what I want to tell to Lola but I zipped my mouth and keep quiet instead. Ayokong magsumbong at mag-away sila ni Mama. That ball was a gift from Lola last year when I celebrated my sixth birthday. Mama is just angry and broke my soccer ball because I did wrong. It’s not her fault.

“I kicked the ball hard so it flew into the neighbour's backyard, Lola. Before I could get it back, their dog chewed it so it was broken.”

I lower my gaze. I can't look at Lola's eyes while telling lies. Tho, I'm not lying that the ball is broken. I don’t know if telling lies like this is bad or not. Is it okay to lie if I didn’t mean it?

"Ayos lang iyan, apo. Maraming pambili ng bola si Lola. Ibibili kita ng bago."

My heart beat fast hearing that. Excitement sparked in my eyes. I love soccer. I love soccer balls. I love the wind that hits me every time I run freely on the field. I love every time I score a goal. I love whenever my coaches and teammates praise me that i'm good. I love it but I love my parents more. If they hate it, I won’t do it.

The cars are beautiful. It's not a ball so I hope Mama won't throw it away.

"I don't want a real sports ball anymore. Can you just give me a small toy replica of a soccer ball, Lola?" I asked while carefully glancing at her.

"What do you mean small and not real? Do you mean a soccer ball keychain?"

"Keychain? How small is that?" I asked as I wondered where I could hide it.

She typed for a while and then showed me the screen.

"Buy me that, Lola! I want ten with different colors!”

I'm smiling and I'm already excited for Lola's next visit. She visits me twice a year and this is her second this year.

“Oh, god! Bakit naging ganito kaguwapo ang apo ko? I’m afraid when he grows up all the girls will be obsessed with him!”

“I love you, my only baby boy!”

I giggled and was satisfied with Lola's I love you. Someday, I want to hear these words from my parents too.
