I was ashamed to return to my parents' house. I could have easily gone to a hotel, but deep down, I needed the comfort of my family. I rang the doorbell, and my mom opened it with a surprised expression.
“Y/N, Evie?” she exclaimed.
“Mrs. Park, who’s at the door?” My dad called from another room.
“Dad,” I said, walking into his arms for a warm hug. I missed my family so much.
“You came alone? What happened to Jungkook?” My dad noticed immediately.
I had prepared myself for this question on the drive over. I wanted to tell them everything, but the contract between me and Jungkook was something I still felt bound to keep a secret.
“He’s at work… or home,” I answered, unsure if it was even the truth.
“You didn’t bring any luggage. Are you staying here?” my mom asked, her voice full of concern.
“No. I’ll be staying here for a while,” I said, my voice tinged with shame.
“What did he do? Don’t tell me he kicked you out,” my dad said, his anger rising.
“No, no, no. That’s not it,” I clarified quickly.
“You left him?” My mom’s voice was full of shock and hurt.
It seemed like I’d have to tell them everything. It wasn’t something I wanted to do, but I knew I couldn’t hide it forever.
“It’s a long story,” I started, but my dad raised his hand.
“We’ll talk about it after dinner,” he said, settling the matter, and I nodded.
I carried Evie to my room, the weight of the situation hanging heavily on my shoulders. We sat on the bed.
“I miss daddy,” she said, her small voice tinged with sadness.
“I do too,” I admitted, my heart breaking for both of us.
“When are we going back?” she asked, her eyes full of hope.
“I don’t know, Evie,” I said honestly. I wasn’t sure if I could go back or if Jungkook would even want me back. I felt like I had ruined everything.
My mom’s voice interrupted my thoughts as I walked into the kitchen where she was preparing dinner.
“I thought you said everything was okay?” she asked, her tone gentle.
“It was, and then I ruined it. A part of me feels like I shouldn’t forgive him so easily… but that’s exactly what I did,” I confessed, guilt eating at me.
“Do you regret it?” she asked, passing me some vegetables to chop.
“I do,” I replied, my voice heavy with remorse. “I should have been more patient with him. He was putting in so much effort, and I just threw it away.”
“If he loves you, he’ll come back to you,” she said, patting me on the back. Her words were comforting, but I still felt so unsure.
“I hope so, Mom,” I whispered, nearly in tears. “How could I be so foolish?”
“Don’t worry. He will come around,” she reassured me, and I believed her.
I took a deep breath, trying to let go of the guilt that had built up inside. “I’ll try. I really want things to work out between us.”
“You will,” she said, giving me a warm, comforting hug.
“I love you, Mom,” I said, the words coming out more easily than I expected.
