Y/N's POV
Sadly, the week had come to an end, and so had the honeymoon. In a way, it had turned out to be fun. Exploring the island, trying new things—it was a whole new experience. I had pranked Jungkook a lot, and he had done the same to me. We spent most of the time getting on each other's nerves. He definitely had deep issues. I still hated him, and nothing was going to change that, but we had interacted a little more than I expected. When he took me to his resort, I was surprised to learn he owned the island and the resort itself. Just how rich was he? I liked it here. It was calm and peaceful.
"We're leaving now, baby," Jungkook said, taking my hand. I was going to miss this place—the ocean view, the sound of the waves, waking up to such tranquility.
Jungkook had been calling me "baby" often, mostly because there were always people around us. When we were alone, though, we barely spoke. I wondered how things would be now that we were married. Would he still treat me like a maid? Would he continue being his cold, annoying self? Would I be stuck doing nothing but housework?
Jungkook went back to work on Monday morning. On Saturday, I had asked him if I could work, but he outright denied me. I decided to go anyway. That morning, I got ready, dressing professionally, my hair tied neatly in a bun. I wore expensive designer clothes, looking every bit like a CEO's wife. I was leisurely eating my sandwich when Jungkook finally came downstairs. I nearly forgot how devilishly handsome he looked in suits.
"And why are you dressed like this, Park?" he asked, clearly annoyed.
"What do you think?" I replied, raising an eyebrow.
"This isn't the time for guesses or for you to play dress-up."
"And who said I'm playing dress-up, Mr. Jeon?" I shot back, watching his expression carefully.
"You're not going to work, Park, especially not at my company. Go upstairs and change your outfit," he ordered.
"I can't. All this—" I gestured at my outfit, "cannot be in vain."
"Well, I wasn't the one who told you to dress up, was I?" he asked angrily.
"I'm going to work, Jeon, whether you like it or not," I said, staring him down with anger.
"You won't be going anywhere, Park," he said harshly.
"What exactly is your problem, Jeon? I want to work. I don't see any reason why I shouldn't. What am I supposed to do in the house all day?" I snapped. Who did he think he was to control me?
"Watch TV, cook, eat, shop, gossip with your friends—do anything you want, but stay out of my office or any other workplace," he said angrily.
"I'm not going to do any of those things, Jeon. I refuse to be a housewife who just waits on her husband. I want to have my own life, do what I want, and make my own money," I shouted back.
"Everything comes down to money for you. I've already paid you more than enough, yet you're still greedy," he retorted angrily. "There's no need for you to work, Park."
"There is every need to! It's your money, not mine. I want to earn my own money, not just live off being your wife. I wasn't raised that way."
"Deal or not, you're my wife now, and you don't need to work. Drop it. I'm already late for work," he said, grabbing his phone from the table.
"And why are you even going to work? You already have more than enough. There’s no need for you to work either," I said angrily, throwing his words back at him.
"That's different, Park. I'm running a company; I have to take care of things. You don’t have one," he said with a smug smirk.
"Then I want one. And besides, you could always work from home," I said, matching his smirk.
"Money-driven, or do you just want to see my face more?" he teased, raising an eyebrow.
"Very funny, Jeon," I said with a laugh. "Why would I want to see your face all the time?" I added angrily. I admit he was attractive, and I liked looking at him sometimes, but every time? He was insane.
"Good. Since you don’t want to see my face every time, I guess you’re not working with me, then," he said smugly.
"Okay, fine. I want to see your face every time, Mr. Jeon," I said softly, trying to sound convincing.
"Too bad. I don’t want to see yours," he said, smirking.
"Please. I only said that because I thought I could change your mind," I replied, watching as he picked up my sandwich and coffee, walking out.
"That was my breakfast!" I yelled, rushing after him.
"We don’t want to be late now. Walk faster," he said, making me smile. I went back to grab my bag and ran to catch up.
The car ride to his office was silent. Jungkook didn’t say a word, focusing on his newspaper while eating my sandwich and drinking my coffee. I couldn’t help but feel uncertain about his decision. I wouldn’t have been surprised if he left me stranded halfway there.
When we arrived, I opened my door and got out, but someone opened his for him. "Next time, wait for me or someone else to open your door," he said sternly, his tone far from calm.
He took my hand as we walked through the lobby. Everyone we passed greeted and congratulated us. I smiled and replied, but Jungkook ignored them entirely. We took the private elevator to his office. Once inside, I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.
"You don’t have to greet everyone who greets you. They’re employees, not friends," he said.
"They’re your employees, not mine. And some of them are my friends," I argued.
"Don’t get too friendly with them. You were my assistant before, but now you’re my wife. You should be respected. No one will respect you if you keep smiling and chatting with them."
"That’s not true," I began, but he cut me off, saying we should drop it. Instead, I asked what I’d be doing.
"You’ll help me with office tasks. I fired my assistant." Or maybe she quit?
He passed me a stack of files. "I need you to go through all of these."
My eyes widened in shock. "You wanted to work," he said with a smirk. Then, glancing up from his own work, he added, "Oh, and I need it done today."
"You’re impossible," I muttered angrily. Must he treat me like a servant everywhere we go? But if he thought I’d give up, he was mistaken. I was determined to prove him wrong.
