Y/N'S POV

Another Monday morning. Another frantic rush to work.

I quickly got ready, pulling on a lacy black skirt, a white off-the-shoulder top, and black heels. After tying my black hair into a neat bun, I applied just enough makeup to look presentable, grabbed my bag, and locked the door behind me.

The day was already off to a rocky start. I had missed the first bus, and New York’s infamous Monday morning traffic wasn’t doing me any favors. As cars zipped past, I realized waiting for the next bus would make me even later, so I flagged down a taxi. By the time it dropped me off at the towering office building, I was already 30 minutes behind schedule.

The lobby was a blur of employees rushing to and fro. Something about the energy of the place felt different—tense, urgent. Perhaps it was the arrival of our new CEO, someone I hadn’t met yet. The elevator ride up was packed, employees juggling files, phones, and hurried conversations. It was going to be one of those days.

I stepped out on my floor, headed straight for my desk just outside the boss's office. For years, I’d worked as the personal assistant to Mr. Jeon Taehyung, the previous CEO. He had been fair, kind, and easy to work with. But he had passed away just three days ago, leaving the company to his estranged son.

I didn’t know much about the new boss, but rumors were swirling that he was nothing like his father. And as if on cue, I heard his voice.

“And where the hell is the supposed personal assistant?” His tone cut through the air like a blade, sharp and dripping with annoyance. My pulse quickened.

Oh no. Please, God, don’t let me get fired on my first day working under him.

“I’m here, sir,” I said softly, my voice almost a whisper.

He turned to face me, and the moment our eyes met, my heart skipped a beat.

JUNGKOOK'S POV

It was Monday morning, and I was about to step into a life I never wanted.

Taking over my father’s company was the last thing I’d ever imagined for myself. He had passed away just three days ago from the hereditary disease that ran in our family—a disease that seemed to take more than it gave. I’d spent years hating him, even refusing to acknowledge his last name until recently.

My father had abandoned my mother and me before I was even born. He’d paid her off with a million dollars to stay out of his life, a decision my mother made out of desperation. At 19, with no family support, she’d taken the money to survive. I didn’t blame her. What choice did she have?

Growing up, I resented the man who left us behind, and when I finally met him, the hate I felt was immeasurable. But as his death drew closer, he showed up, begging my mother for forgiveness. She forgave him—somehow. I didn’t.

And now, thanks to his will, I was here, sitting in the executive chair of a company I had no emotional connection to. The office was massive and tastefully designed, dominated by shades of black and brown. The glass walls offered a sprawling view of the city, and a sleek mahogany desk stood at the center. A small meeting space with leather furniture added a cozy touch, but it all felt cold to me. Just like everything associated with him.

An hour passed as I worked on my laptop. No sign of the personal assistant yet. I was already annoyed. Tardiness was unacceptable, especially on a day like this.

I finally stepped out of my office, spotting an employee passing by. “And where the hell is the supposed personal assistant?” I barked, unable to hide my irritation.

A soft voice answered from behind me. “I’m here, sir.”

I turned, ready to tear into whoever thought it was okay to show up late. And then I froze.

It was her.

Park Y/N.

Y/N'S POV

The moment he turned around, the air seemed to leave my lungs.

Jeon Jungkook.

I hadn’t seen him in years. Not since... well, not since our paths had crossed in a way I thought I’d never have to think about again. His dark eyes locked onto mine, and I couldn’t decipher whether the look in them was anger or disbelief.

“My office. Now,” he ordered, his voice cold and sharp. Without a word, I followed him, my legs shaky as I walked into his imposing space.

He sat down behind his desk, staring at me with an expression that made my stomach twist.

“Where the hell have you been? You were supposed to be here an hour ago,” he snapped, his tone biting.

“I’m sorry, sir. I missed the first bus, and there was traffic,” I said quietly, trying to keep my voice steady.

“I don’t care about your excuses,” he shot back. “I don’t tolerate tardiness. If you’re late again, you’re fired. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes, sir,” I answered, swallowing my nerves.

“I want the file on Mr. Mark on my desk. Now.”

I hurried to retrieve the file, placing it in front of him without a word.

“You may leave,” he dismissed me with a wave of his hand.

I walked out of the office, closing the door behind me. My heart was pounding in my chest. Seeing him again had thrown me off completely.

JUNGKOOK'S POV

As soon as she left, I let out a frustrated sigh.

Seeing her again was the last thing I expected today.

Park Y/N. The girl I used to know, the girl who had once been nothing more than a passing thought, now stood before me as a completely different person. She looked... stunning. Her long dark hair, now tied back, and those hazel-green eyes were captivating in a way I hadn’t noticed before.

I hated that she was here.

But I hated even more that I couldn’t stop thinking about her.
