Two days had passed since we got back, and things between us were calm, but I couldn't shake off the nagging thoughts in my head. I was trying not to let anything ruin our love this time around. I wanted to rebuild the trust that was fractured, to let go of all the past anger and bitterness, but it wasn’t easy. Sometimes, my mind would replay everything he did wrong, and I'd wonder what could have been if we had started off differently. If he had been there from the beginning, if we had raised Evie together, if he had followed through with the pregnancy. He thought the same, and it made me feel guilty because I knew how badly he wanted to be there for our daughter.
"What are you thinking about now?" he asked, kissing my neck and pulling me back into the moment.
"How things could have been different," I replied, and he sighed deeply.
"Y/N, you have to let go of that. It’s in the past now. We just need to focus on the present and future," he said gently, cupping my face. I nodded.
"I love you," I smiled, and just as we were about to kiss, we heard Evie stirring and turning to look at us. We chuckled softly.
Evie had been refusing to sleep in her room lately, preferring to stay close to Jungkook. I couldn’t blame her—she was just excited to have him around after all this time. Jungkook, too, had been putting in so much effort to bond with her. He was constantly bringing home gifts for both of us. Sometimes, I couldn't help but feel a little jealous of the way she seemed to need him more than me, and I knew he was struggling to balance his time between her, me, his work, and his family.
"By the way, Y/N," Jungkook said, "My family’s coming over for dinner on Friday. I’d like Evie to meet them, but I’m not sure how my mom’s going to react." I could see the worry in his eyes. I understood—his mom had never been very fond of me, and I was bracing myself for the potential fallout.
"It’ll be fine," I said, trying to lighten the mood. "What’s the worst that can happen?" We both laughed, trying to ease the tension.
The next morning, my phone buzzed, pulling me out of sleep. I checked the message, and my heart dropped.
"The whole world will soon know about everything. If you don't want it exposed, send $15 million in the next hour. Time’s ticking."
I was panicked. Who could know our secret? Who wanted $15 million, and why? My mind was racing with questions, and I didn’t know what to do. Should I tell Jungkook? I was confused, paralyzed by the fear of what might come next.
Jungkook walked in and saw the look on my face, immediately sensing something was wrong. "Hey, what’s wrong?" He pulled me into his arms, concern written all over his face.
I hesitated, unsure whether to share it with him. But then I realized I couldn’t keep this from him, especially since it affected both of us.
"Someone’s been sending me threats," I whispered, barely able to get the words out. "They know our secret and they want to expose it."
His face hardened, his anger evident. "How long has this been going on?"
"Two... two weeks," I stammered.
"Two weeks, and you didn’t tell me?" he asked, frustration rising in his voice.
"Evie’s here," I whispered, trying to explain. "I didn’t want her to hear, and I didn’t know if it was real. I didn’t want to worry you." But I could see the hurt in his eyes.
"How could you not tell me? We’re supposed to share everything," he said, his voice softer now, but still hurt.
"You're right. I should have told you," I said, feeling guilty.
