It was the third day, and Evie was coming home. I had learned that Jungkook was upset about a deal the other night. We were at work, and I had finished everything he asked so I could head home early and prepare for Evie's arrival.
"That's the last file. I'm going home now," I announced, grabbing my bag.
"Let's go then. I have some things to take care of," he replied.
We got home, and I began preparing Evie’s favorite dishes. I missed her so much. We had video called every day, but now she was finally coming home. Jungkook helped with the cooking. Once we were done, I went upstairs to freshen up.
When I saw Evie downstairs, she was in Jungkook’s arms, and I smiled. "So, did you miss me?" Jungkook asked.
"Yes, I missed you," she answered, smiling back.
"Evie!" I called, and she immediately rushed out of Jungkook’s arms and into mine, making me smile widely.
"I missed you so much, sweetie," I said, hugging her.
"I missed you too," she replied, smiling.
"You must be hungry. Let’s wash you up first," I said.
While I washed her, she babbled about everything she had done, and I listened, smiling. When we came downstairs, Jungkook had already set the table.
"You made all my best food!" she exclaimed, smiling. "Thank you."
We sat down to eat, and I fed her, even though she could eat perfectly on her own.
"Didn’t you guys go to work?" she asked curiously.
"We did, but we came back for you," I said, and she smiled, pulling me into a hug.
After eating and cleaning up, Evie and I went upstairs to watch The Incredibles 2. A knock interrupted us, and it was Jungkook.
"Come join us," Evie beckoned.
Jungkook sat on the bed, placing Evie on his lap. The cartoon was great.
After the movie, Jungkook said he had a surprise for Evie. The fact that he had a surprise for her was enough to surprise me.
"What’s the surprise?" Evie asked excitedly.
"It wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you, princess," he said, and she frowned.
We went out of the room and stood in front of a door. When he opened it, my jaw dropped. The room was like something out of a princess cartoon. It was painted in pink and purple, Evie’s favorite colors. The room was spacious, with a large princess bed and a Sofia the First mattress, a pink vanity table, a purple wardrobe. There was also a TV, but what left me speechless was the walk-in closet—filled with bags, shoes, and clothes, all expensive. Evie squealed in excitement as she saw it, and there was a section with princess gowns—Sofia’s, Amber’s, Snow White’s—everything. It was over the top.
"This is amazing! Thank you so much, Jungkook!" she exclaimed, jumping up and down.
"Anything for you, princess," he said, lifting her up.
I knew Jungkook liked kids, but this was beyond what I expected. Something tugged at my heart, and I felt guilty. Was this the life Evie would have if I told Jungkook about her? They looked so happy together, and it made me happy too.
"This is nice, Jungkook. You didn’t have to..."
"I did, and it’s for her. She doesn’t have a problem with it," he said.
"Can I sleep here tonight?" Evie asked, and I nodded.
"We should leave her to enjoy the room," Jungkook said, and we both left, bidding her goodnight.
