We were at the venue for The Tonight Show, one of the biggest shows in New York. Numerous celebrities had been interviewed there, and I never imagined I’d be one of them. I was incredibly nervous—public speaking had never been my strong suit, and now I was on a live show with a vast audience. Thousands, maybe even millions, of people could be watching. With one wrong move, they’d see through this entire act.
In the dressing room, the makeup artist added a few touch-ups while the stylist ensured my hair remained flawless.
“Two minutes to showtime,” someone announced.
My nerves skyrocketed. What if they figured out this was fake? I’d be in serious trouble. I glanced at myself in the mirror and barely recognized the person staring back. I didn’t look like the poor girl I was used to seeing but like a rich, sophisticated woman. I wore a simple white gown, diamond earrings, a necklace, white six-inch heels, and, of course, the engagement ring.
Jungkook walked into the dressing room, as handsome as ever. Dressed in a tuxedo with his hair styled neatly, he exuded confidence. For a moment, we shamelessly checked each other out.
“And now, let’s welcome Jeon Jungkook and his fiancée, Park Y/N!” the host introduced, met by applause and cheers.
This was it—the most anticipated interview.
“Smile, and don’t ruin this,” Jungkook warned, taking my hand and leading me to the stage.
The applause grew louder, and I knew it was for Jungkook. His hand holding mine only added to my nervousness.
We smiled as we stepped on stage, waving at the audience. The show had begun.
The host greeted us warmly and gestured for us to take our seats. It was a loveseat, and we sat close together, Jungkook’s hand resting on my thigh. His touch didn’t help my nerves—it made them worse. Why did he place his hand there?
“I’m honored you accepted my invitation to the show,” the host began. “On Wednesday morning, people were shocked to see your engagement announcement, but some still believe it’s a rumor. How true is it?”
“It’s not a rumor—it’s absolutely true,” Jungkook replied confidently. “I’m engaged to this beautiful woman beside me, and we’re getting married.” He smiled at me with admiration.
He was nailing this performance. His looks might fool everyone else, but not me. His smile and the way he looked at me as if he were in love—it was all an act. If he could do it, so could I. I smiled back at him, playing my part.
“So, Y/N, how do you feel about being engaged to Jungkook? And how did he propose?” the host asked.
I took a deep breath, recalling my rehearsed answer. “I feel blessed and happy to be engaged to him. I wasn’t expecting it when he proposed. We were on one of our many dates, but this time, it was on his yacht. I was so surprised when he got down on one knee, revealed a ring, and asked me to marry him,” I said, faking excitement. “It’s a moment I’ll never forget.”
It was true—I’d never forget how he stood upright, practically forcing me to wear the ring.
“That’s adorable,” the host gushed. “How long have you been dating, and why didn’t we know?”
“We’ve been dating for three months,” Jungkook answered smoothly. “I wanted to keep it private because she doesn’t like media attention, and I was serious about her.”
“So, Y/N, how did you two meet?” the host asked, turning to me with a smile.
“We met at his father’s company three months ago. But before that, we were high school sweethearts,” I replied, smiling.
“Really?” she asked, surprised. “Why did you break up back then?”
The real reason came flooding back—the rejection, the humiliation, the pain. For a moment, I couldn’t speak, but I gathered myself quickly. “We went to different universities and couldn’t handle a long-distance relationship,” I finally said.
“But look at you two now, about to get married,” she said brightly, smiling at us. Jungkook rubbed my palm, adding to the charade. “Speaking of marriage, when’s the date?”
“We haven’t set a date yet,” Jungkook said, his smile unwavering. “But it’ll be in less than two months. I can’t wait to marry her.”
The way he looked at me could have any normal girl swooning. I’d been there before, but now I was wiser. His looks couldn’t fool me anymore.
“So, Jungkook, what’s so special about Y/N that you chose her over anyone else?”
“Y/N is unique,” he said, his tone soft but firm. “She has all the qualities I want in a wife. We share a special bond I can’t let go of. She’s lovable, and I admire everything about her. She means more to me than anyone ever has, and I love her deeply.” He looked at me with that same intense gaze, one that might have melted my heart if this were real. But it was Jungkook—I had my limits.
“Y/N, how do you truly feel about Jungkook? People say you’re a gold digger, only interested in his money, and that you’re not fit to be the future Mrs. Jeon.”
Hearing those words spoken aloud was worse than I’d imagined. Fake marriage or not, it stung. I’d avoided reading the comments for this reason, yet here it was, broadcasted to the world. Anger boiled within me, but before I could respond, Jungkook spoke.
“Only I get to decide who’s fit to be Mrs. Jeon,” he said, his tone sharp. “If it isn’t her, then it’s no one. Anyone with a problem can deal with it.” His voice carried an edge of irritation, but I couldn’t tell if it was genuine or part of the act.
I placed my hand over his, still on my thigh, trying to calm him.
“People will always talk, and I’m not surprised,” I said, turning to the host. “I know many girls are jealous and angry that I’m marrying Jungkook. But like he said, they’ll have to deal with it. I’m not marrying him for his money or status—I love him. Yes, my background is different from his. So what? I might not fit into his world perfectly, but who decides what qualities the future Mrs. Jeon should have? Class? Money? Being a billionaire heiress? Just because I’m none of those things doesn’t mean I can’t be with him. Jungkook loves me for who I am, and that’s enough for me. People can say what they want—it’s his opinion of me that matters.” I smiled, and Jungkook smiled back.
“Well, there you have it,” the host said with finality. “I think they’re in love. If anyone still doubts it, I don’t know what to tell you. That’s it for The Tonight Show. Goodnight, everyone!”
