I was left speechless as he threw the DNA test at me.
"Jungkook... I..." I stammered, unsure of what to say.
"You had a child for me and never told me, even when she was right here. Why didn't you?" His anger boiled over.
"I was going to tell you today," I finally managed to say, feeling like the tears were close. This wasn’t how I imagined this conversation going.
"Today? After all this time? After all these months? Why today?" His voice was full of frustration. I could see his hurt.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know how to tell you. You didn't expect me to tell you right when we met, did you?"
"Why didn’t you tell me the moment you knew?" His voice thundered.
"Because you broke up with me, Jungkook. You called me all kinds of things – a cheat, a gold digger, a slut. Why would I tell you about our child then? You wouldn’t have believed me."
"You could have told me," he said, his voice raw with pain.
"And every time I tried, you shut me out, told me to leave you alone, told me you wanted nothing to do with me. How was I supposed to tell you?" I snapped back, the anger rising again.
"You could’ve told me!" he yelled back.
"And you didn’t think I tried? Every time I reached out, you ignored me or blocked me, even when I called from other numbers. I came to your place once only to see you with Betty! That was the final straw. You pushed me out of your life, and now you wonder why you’re not in hers." My anger was boiling over as old wounds reopened.
"Maybe if you hadn’t cheated, things would have been different. We could’ve raised her together," he said bitterly.
"I never cheated, Jungkook! Why do you always think that?" I couldn’t hold back anymore. "The pictures, the things you saw — nothing happened that day you walked in on us!"
"You were always with him, and I knew he liked you too. I should’ve confronted you, but I didn’t," he admitted.
"So, you broke up with me because you thought I cheated? You never trusted me enough to talk about it. You just assumed, you didn’t even trust me." My voice broke as I realized how much pain he caused. "You humiliated me, Jungkook. You made me feel worthless. I thought the sex would make you stay because I thought you loved me, but all you did was break me."
"I did love you, Y/N," he said softly.
I couldn’t stop the bitter laugh that escaped me. "You didn’t, Jungkook. You didn’t love me. You crushed me. You don’t even know how badly you hurt me." Tears flowed freely now, my chest tight with emotion.
"I’m sorry, Y/N. I never knew," he said, his voice trembling.
"You never knew? You never cared to find out. You never knew the pain I went through, the depression, the feeling of not being good enough. You broke me, and now you expect me to just forgive you." My voice was shaking. "Do you think I liked any of this? Being pregnant at 18? Losing my scholarship? You made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. I felt so lost, and now, here I am. Do you think I wanted this? That I wanted to go through all of it alone?"
"I didn’t know," he whispered, looking down in shame.
"Well, you should’ve. You should’ve cared enough to find out. I was just another burden to my parents. And labor—" The pain of it all made me falter. "Do you think I wanted any of this? To be in this position?"
He took a step toward me. "Mi dispiace, tesoro mio." He hugged me, and at first, I resisted, but then I broke down in his arms.
"I’m so sorry for everything, Y/N," he murmured, and when I looked up at him, I saw tears in his eyes.
"Did you even want me?" A small voice asked from behind. We turned to find Evie standing there, her eyes red from crying.
"Evie, it’s not like that," I rushed to say, but she was already crying harder.
"Why didn’t you tell me Jungkook is my dad?" she sobbed.
"I... I didn’t know how," I whispered, feeling crushed.
"Why didn’t you tell me?" she asked, her face twisted in hurt. "You knew, and you never told me! All this time, I asked about him, and you said nothing."
"I'm sorry, Evie. I didn’t know how to tell you," I stammered.
"Why didn’t you just say that? Why didn’t you tell me?" she shouted, her voice full of hurt.
I felt utterly defeated. "I’m sorry, baby."
"You never wanted me, did you?" she sobbed. "I was just a mistake."
"No, Evie, you’re not a mistake," Jungkook said urgently, but she pushed him away.
"Don’t talk to me," she shouted, looking at him with eyes full of pain.
I didn’t know how to fix any of this. All I wanted was to hold her, but she shut me out.
"I thought you loved me, Mummy," she said quietly, her voice breaking. "If you loved me, you would’ve told me the truth."
"I do love you, Evie. I’m so sorry," I cried.
She threw her toys, and one of them hit me in the head, causing it to bleed. When she saw, she looked even more upset. "Serves you right," she muttered.
"Evie, stop," Jungkook said, but she was too angry, too hurt to listen.
"Get out," she cried, locking herself in her room.
Jungkook and I stood there, feeling helpless. I had ruined everything. I had destroyed the family I always dreamed of. He looked at me, his eyes full of pain.
"You ruined it all, Y/N. I just wanted a family with you," he said, his voice broken.
I felt worse than I ever had. I wanted to fix things, but I didn’t know how. All I knew was that I had failed them both.
