"We're really going to the zoo?" Evie asked excitedly for the third time in a minute.
"Yes, Evie, the zoo," I said, smiling as I carried her.
"I'm so excited," she revealed, and I smiled. It was too obvious.
"Let's get going," Jungkook said, walking ahead of us.
We got into his midnight black Range Rover, which was absolutely stunning. We stopped by the park to have lunch in a spot he had reserved for us.
"This is so nice. We should do this often," Evie suggested, and I wholeheartedly agreed.
The food was beautifully displayed—varieties of dishes, pastries, drinks, and fruits. After eating, I just sat, basking in the sun. Being outside in the open air felt wonderful.
"Let's take a picture," Jungkook said. We took some together, then I captured a few of Evie, and she took some of us. The group selfie turned out amazing. We looked like a family, and for a moment, guilt washed over me.
"The serenity is nice," Jungkook remarked after Evie ran off to chase a butterfly.
"Yeah, we really don't go out—thanks to someone. All we do is work and come home."
"I've been busy and don't have time for this. Besides, I hate being in the public eye," he said, defending himself. Though it was clearly his fault, he didn't want to admit it.
I stayed quiet, not wanting to start an argument with Jungkook. Conversations with him always spiraled. I pulled out my phone and scrolled through social media—something I rarely had time for anymore.
"We have an interview next week and a photoshoot. I've been rejecting them since we got married, but they just won’t let it go. We’ll have to do it."
I hated taking pictures with Jungkook because it meant being close to him, often in awkward positions, and there was always this lingering sensation when we touched. It annoyed me how my body still reacted to his.
"You don’t want to do it?" he asked.
"No, it’s fine. I’ve also gotten some offers from brands that I’d like to accept, if that’s okay with you."
"Sure, but only take on what you’re comfortable with," he said. I nodded. I hated this considerate side of him—it made it harder to maintain my anger.
"I’m going to see what Evie is up to," I said, standing up. She wasn’t within sight, but I knew she was safe with Jungkook’s bodyguards around.
"Do I make you uncomfortable, Park?" he asked, smirking.
"Of course not, Jeon. I just don’t like being around you."
"Why? Because you want to do things to me?" he asked seductively, and I laughed.
"In your dreams, Jeon. Speak for yourself."
"Oh, I’m speaking for myself, Park. You’re already in my dreams," he said with a smirk.
It didn’t take much to figure out what those dreams entailed, and I momentarily imagined it. I shook my head to clear the thought.
"That’s all it’ll ever be—a dream. It’ll never be reality."
"Don’t be so sure, Park."
"Oh, but I am," I said, smirking. My body might crave him, but my heart didn’t. I wouldn’t let him near either.
We went to the zoo, and Evie was thrilled to see the animals. We took pictures with some of them, and it was delightful. A few people even wanted photos with us—it’s not every day you see Jeon Jungkook at a zoo. Teenagers squealed as we passed, snapping pictures of him. Evie even got to feed the animals, and seeing her so happy warmed my heart. Jungkook looked different, too. He was dressed casually instead of in his usual suits. It made me wonder what it would be like if we acted like a real family. If they both knew.
Next, we visited the amusement park. After several rides, they wanted to save the best for last: the rollercoaster. I had no intention of getting on—I hated heights.
"Please," Evie begged with puppy-dog eyes.
"I’m not saying you can’t go. I’m just not going to—I’ll watch you."
"Let’s ride it together. All of us. Please."
I couldn’t resist her eyes and agreed, though part of me dreaded it. I didn’t want her thinking I wasn’t willing to spend time with her.
"Still scared of heights, Park?" Jungkook teased.
"Shut up, Jeon."
"Aren’t you embarrassed? A five-year-old isn’t afraid of heights, yet you are," he said, laughing.
"Yeah, yeah, shout it to the world," I said, rolling my eyes.
"Hey, everyone, my wife is—" he started yelling.
"What the hell, Jeon?" I asked, covering his mouth as he smirked. I was joking, but he clearly wasn’t.
Everyone stared, and it was mortifying. Jungkook removed my hands from his mouth, wrapping an arm around my waist. Our heads touched as he grinned. "My wife is just the best," he finished.
I couldn’t help but smile. At least he didn’t say what he’d intended to.
"I’d love to see your face on the rollercoaster," he teased, laughing.
"I hate you, Jeon," I said with a frown.
"Oh, I know you do, baby," he smirked.
Sickening. I sighed and pulled away from his grip, realizing only then that I’d stayed in it longer than I should have.
"Can you buy the tickets already?" Evie asked tiredly, after watching us.
On the ride, I made sure the seatbelts were secured. As the rollercoaster ascended, I felt my heart race. The drop came suddenly, and I let out a terrified scream while Jungkook and Evie screamed with excitement. Jungkook even had the audacity to take pictures of my horrified expression. By the time the ride ended, I felt nauseous.
Jungkook laughed at me the entire time. Evie joined in, and I vowed to find something they hated so I could laugh at them.
We stopped for hotdogs and ice cream before Evie spotted a game center. She begged Jungkook to win her a teddy bear. Watching him compete with another guy reminded me of when Jungkook won me a red teddy bear on a date years ago.
"Come on, baby, get it," the other guy’s girlfriend encouraged, sticking her tongue out at Evie.
Evie muttered something under her breath, and I laughed.
"Encourage me too, wifey," Jungkook called.
"Less talking, more working," I said, rolling my eyes.
When Jungkook finally won the bear, Evie gleefully showed it off to the teenage girl, who rolled her eyes. Her boyfriend had only won her a smaller bear.
By the time we got home, it was late. We were all exhausted from the rides, but I surprisingly enjoyed the day.
"Thanks for taking me out," Evie said, smiling.
"No problem, Evie. If you need anything, you can always come to me," Jungkook replied.
"Okay," she said, kissing him goodnight.
"You really made her happy," I said, smiling.
"Yeah. What about you? Are you happy?"
"She’s happy, so I’m happy," I replied.
"Then I’m happy," he said, smiling.
"Goodnight, Jeon," I said, turning to leave. But he surprised me by turning me around and kissing my forehead. The simple gesture sent my heart racing. I froze, stunned. When I regained my senses, I pushed him away. This wasn’t supposed to happen. I wasn’t supposed to feel this way.
