Inside the glowing crystal lab of Nigrum Anima, Neville and Luna were already hard at work when Harry joined them. The room was alive with soft light as the various crystals from the Black Tower pulsed faintly on their pedestals, each one radiating its own unique energy.
Harry stepped closer, his gaze sweeping over the samples. "What have you found so far?"
Neville looked up from his notes, his face a mixture of excitement and caution. "These crystals are incredible, Harry. They're not just magical—they're specialized. Each one reacts differently depending on how we interact with it."
"Specialized how?" Harry asked, crossing his arms as he studied the glowing stones.
Luna smiled faintly, running her fingers over a pale white crystal that shimmered like snow. "Let us show you."
The Absorbers
Neville picked up a pale blue crystal and set it on a rune-covered table. "This one seems to absorb magic," he explained, pointing to the faint glow that pulsed within the stone.
He cast a Lumos spell over it, and the crystal flickered, drawing the light into itself. The room dimmed slightly as the crystal grew brighter, almost as though it were feeding on the magic.
"It doesn't release the energy," Neville said, frowning slightly. "It just holds onto it."
"We're calling it an Absorber, for now," Luna added. "It might be useful for storing spells—or even neutralizing dangerous magic."
Harry nodded, already thinking of potential uses.
The Reflectors
Next, Neville gestured to a cluster of crystals that glimmered like fractured mirrors. "These are... less cooperative," he said wryly.
He cast a Stupefy spell toward one, and the crystal flared brightly before reflecting the spell back at him.
Neville ducked as the spell ricocheted off the wall, and Harry stepped in to cast a shield charm to catch it.
"Noted," Harry said, his brow furrowed. "Deflects spells. These could be used defensively—or offensively."
"Reflection Crystals," Luna suggested. "They're sharp, aren't they? Like they don't trust anyone."
Harry nodded again. "Fitting name. Let's keep these away from anyone who likes to experiment too much—looking at you, Fred and George."
The Core Crystals
Luna held up another crystal, this one smooth and round, with faint veins of light running through it.
"This one reacts to touch," she explained, placing her hand on its surface.
The crystal's color shifted from soft blue to a deep green, then to gold as Neville placed his hand on it.
"It seems to reflect the person holding it," Luna said. "We think it's tied to core magic—the part of you that defines your magical nature."
Neville added, "We're calling them Core Crystals. They don't do much beyond changing colors, but they might have deeper uses we haven't found yet."
Harry picked up a Core Crystal, watching it shift to a bright, fiery red in his hand. "Fascinating," he murmured.
The Dark Shards
Next, Neville pointed to a cluster of jagged, black crystals that sparkled ominously. "These ones are sharp—literally. Be careful."
Harry picked one up carefully, its edges glinting dangerously. "This could easily be a weapon," he said, testing the weight in his hand. "It's light but strong."
"They hold magic too," Neville added. "Not as much as the Absorbers, but enough to reinforce spells."
"We're calling them Dark Shards," Luna said. "They feel... aggressive, don't they?"
Harry nodded, setting the shard down. "We'll study them further, but these could be forged into weapons if needed."
The Frostheart Crystals
Luna moved to a pedestal holding a cluster of snowy white crystals that shimmered faintly with frost.
"These are tied to ice magic," she explained, running her fingers over the cool surface. "When we tested them with simple freezing charms, they amplified the spells tenfold."
Neville nodded. "I cast a basic Frost Charm at one, and it created an entire sheet of ice across the table."
Harry studied the crystals, feeling their faint chill even from a distance. "Frostheart Crystals," he said. "These could be dangerous in the wrong hands."
Luna smiled. "Or powerful in the right ones."
The Shadowglass Crystals
Finally, Luna held up a smoky, dark crystal that shimmered faintly as she turned it in her hand.
"This one's special," she said. "When you touch it, something... strange happens."
She placed her hand on the crystal, and her form shimmered briefly before disappearing entirely.
"Luna!" Neville exclaimed, looking around.
"I'm still here," Luna said, her voice calm but slightly distant. A moment later, she reappeared, her hand still on the crystal. "It makes you invisible, but only as long as you're touching it."
Harry raised his eyebrows. "That's incredible—and dangerous."
"We're calling it Shadowglass," Luna said, setting the crystal back down. "It's like it hides you in plain sight."
The Naming Process
As the day went on, Harry worked with Neville and Luna to categorize and name the crystals they had studied.
Absorbers: Crystals that absorb and store magic.Reflection Crystals: Crystals that reflect spells back at the caster.Core Crystals: Crystals that change color based on the magic of the person touching them.Dark Shards: Jagged crystals that could be used as weapons.Frostheart Crystals: Snowy white crystals that amplify ice magic.Shadowglass: Smoky crystals that grant invisibility.
By the time they finished, the table was filled with neatly labeled samples, each one representing a piece of the Black Tower's power.
"These crystals are more than just artifacts," Harry said, his voice thoughtful. "They're tools—some for creation, some for destruction. If we can understand them, we might be able to turn the tower's magic against it."
Luna tilted her head, her gaze drifting toward the dark shards. "Or the tower might already know what we're doing. These crystals feel like they're watching us."
Harry didn't respond, but the thought lingered as he looked at the glowing stones. The Black Tower was giving up its secrets slowly—but at a cost he was only beginning to understand.
As the crystals pulsed faintly on their pedestals, the team stepped back to reflect on their discoveries. The crystals were powerful, dangerous, and filled with potential—but they were also a reminder of the mysterious force behind the frost.
The Black Tower wasn't just an obstacle. It was a puzzle, and the pieces were beginning to fall into place.
