The dome shimmered faintly in the predawn light, its golden glow illuminating the frost-covered wasteland outside. Inside, the sanctuary rested peacefully, its inhabitants unaware of the magic quietly at work.
As the hours passed, the dome expanded once again, responding to the growing needs of the community.
The gatehouse, once a modest structure, grew wider and deeper, its exterior retaining its familiar appearance but now resembling a proper house. The new interior featured more rooms for intake, private interviews, and storage for emergency supplies.
Farther away, the creature buildings underwent a dramatic transformation. Each habitat grew larger, with the dome's magic expanding the interior spaces far beyond their physical limits. Forest habitats stretched endlessly, lakes deepened, and fields sprawled wide enough to provide space for every creature to roam freely. The changes reflected the dome's understanding of the creatures' needs—comfort, safety, and room to thrive.
Harry's Discovery
The next morning, Harry stepped outside, his cup of tea steaming in the cool morning air. His gaze immediately fell on the expanded gatehouse.
He froze, his eyes widening as he took in the changes. The structure was familiar yet entirely new, its widened front and extended walls unmistakable signs of the dome's magic at work.
Setting down his tea, Harry hurried to the gatehouse, where Michael was already inside, exploring the new layout.
"Michael," Harry called as he entered, his voice tinged with awe. "What happened here?"
Michael turned, grinning. "It's the dome," he said. "Again. It must've expanded during the night."
Harry stepped further inside, taking in the spacious new interior. The front room was larger, with more seating and an expanded desk area for processing arrivals. Beyond it, new hallways branched off, leading to private interview rooms and a storage area fully stocked with supplies.
"This changes everything," Harry murmured, running a hand along the smooth wall.
"It's perfect timing," Michael said. "With the number of people coming in, we've been struggling to keep up. This gives us exactly what we need."
The Creature Buildings
Meanwhile, at the creature habitats, Luna and Hagrid had arrived to begin their morning rounds. They stopped in their tracks as they took in the changes before them.
"Blimey," Hagrid muttered, his eyes wide as he stared at the expanded buildings. "Look at the size o' that!"
Luna stepped forward, her expression serene but her excitement evident. "The dome has been busy," she said softly. "It's given them more space. They'll be so much happier now."
Hagrid pushed open the door to the nearest habitat, his jaw dropping as he stepped inside. The once modest enclosure now stretched endlessly, with towering trees, lush fields, and a shimmering lake. Creatures moved freely, their postures relaxed and their movements unhurried.
"It's amazin'," Hagrid said, his voice thick with emotion. "They've got everything they need now. Room to roam, places to nest..."
Luna crouched near a cluster of glowing mushrooms, her fingers brushing their soft caps. "The dome understands," she said. "It knows that the creatures are as much a part of this sanctuary as we are."
Sharing the News
By midday, word of the dome's latest changes had spread throughout the sanctuary. Harry, Luna, and Hagrid led a group to tour the expanded creature habitats, their awe mirrored in every face.
"These habitats..." Neville began, his voice trailing off as he gazed at the vibrant greenery. "It's like stepping into another world."
Fred and George grinned as they leaned against the gate of one enclosure.
"Who needs a vacation," Fred quipped, "when you've got this?"
George nodded. "The creatures are living better than some of us!"
Hagrid chuckled, his usual booming laugh filled with joy. "They deserve it. They've been through just as much as we have."
Harry watched as Hagrid gently approached a young hippogriff, who bowed its head in greeting. Luna, meanwhile, was speaking softly to a group of Bowtruckles, their tiny faces peeking out from the branches of an enchanted tree.
"They're thriving," Harry said quietly, his heart swelling with gratitude. "The dome's done more than just protect us. It's given all of us—people and creatures alike—a real chance to live."
A New Sense of Purpose
As the day wore on, the sanctuary buzzed with renewed energy. The expanded gatehouse made the intake process smoother, while the enhanced creature habitats inspired wonder and gratitude among the residents.
That evening, Harry stood at the edge of the dome, gazing out at the shimmering barrier. The frost beyond was relentless, but inside, life was thriving.
Luna appeared beside him, her gaze distant but thoughtful.
"The dome grows because we grow," she said softly. "It sees our needs and gives us what we're ready for."
Harry nodded, her words resonating deeply. "It's like it believes in us," he said.
Luna smiled faintly. "Maybe it does."
As the dome shimmered under the moonlight, Harry felt a renewed sense of determination. They were building something extraordinary—something worth protecting.
And together, they would ensure its survival.
