The portraits' awakening had stirred something in Harry. Their questions and observations lingered in his mind as he went about his duties the next day. He found himself walking through Hogwarts, revisiting places that once held fond memories and others that carried the weight of his darkest trials.
The Great Hall
Harry stood at the entrance to the Great Hall, watching as students and residents passed through. The enchanted ceiling mirrored the crisp blue sky outside, and the long tables were bustling with life.
The sight brought a faint smile to his face. For all the sanctuary had endured, Hogwarts still felt like home.
Neville approached, holding a clipboard covered in notes. "Morning, Harry. Everything all right?"
"Just... reminiscing," Harry said, his voice thoughtful.
Neville smiled. "The past has a way of sneaking up on you here. But look at what you've built. It's incredible."
Harry nodded, his eyes scanning the hall. "It's not just me, Neville. Everyone here has played a part. Hogwarts wouldn't be standing if it weren't for all of us."
The Room of Requirement
Harry's steps carried him to the seventh floor, where the Room of Requirement had once been his refuge.
He closed his eyes, concentrating on the thought that filled his mind: A place to understand.
The door appeared, creaking open to reveal a room filled with maps, diagrams, and models of the sanctuary. In the center of it all was a glowing replica of the Dome, its magical energy swirling like a living thing.
Harry walked inside, the room's silence pressing against him like a held breath. The Dome's replica seemed to pulse faintly, its energy shifting in rhythm with Harry's heartbeat.
"Why are you doing this?" Harry whispered, placing a hand on the replica. "What's your purpose?"
The Dome's energy shimmered but offered no answer.
The Astronomy Tower
Later that evening, Harry climbed to the top of the Astronomy Tower, his favorite place to think. The sanctuary stretched out before him, bathed in the soft light of the setting sun.
From this vantage point, he could see the relaxation hub and pool zone, the subdivisions, the farms, and the shimmering border of the Dome.
The enormity of what they had built—and the challenges they still faced—pressed against him.
"Lost in thought again?"
Harry turned to see Draco leaning against the doorway, his gray and silver-striped core crystal glinting faintly.
"Always," Harry said with a small smile.
Draco joined him at the railing, his gaze sweeping over the sanctuary. "You're thinking about the Dome, aren't you? What it wants."
Harry nodded. "The portraits coming back... it felt like a turning point. Like the Dome is preparing us for something bigger. But I still don't know what."
Draco shrugged. "Does it matter? We keep moving forward, Potter. That's what we've always done."
Harry chuckled softly. "For once, I agree with you, Malfoy."
A New Resolve
As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, Harry felt a renewed sense of purpose.
The sanctuary was thriving, but there were still so many mysteries to uncover: the dungeons, the Dome, and the future they were building together.
One step at a time, they would face it all. Together.
