For the first time in months, Harry allowed himself to breathe. After the announcement, the sanctuary had settled into a rhythm of cautious optimism. People were beginning to rebuild, to plan for the future, and to embrace the relief that came with the thaw.
Harry, however, had hardly stopped moving. The Black Tower, the frost, the heart, and the constant demands of leadership had left him exhausted. Standing in his office—now the Headmaster's Office in Hogwarts—he stared out at the snow-dusted grounds of the sanctuary.
Neville entered quietly, holding a steaming cup of tea. "You look like you're about to fall over, Harry."
Harry gave a tired chuckle. "I might. I don't even remember the last time I had a proper night's sleep."
Neville handed him the tea. "Then take one. Better yet, take a week. Let us handle things for a while."
Harry raised an eyebrow. "You think the sanctuary can survive without me for a week?"
Neville grinned. "It survived the frost. I think we'll manage."
Making the Decision
Harry mulled it over as he sipped the tea. A week of rest sounded almost too indulgent, but the weight of everything he'd endured—leading the sanctuary, battling the frost, uncovering the mysteries of the tower—pressed heavily on him.
Finally, he nodded. "Alright. One week. But if anything happens—"
Neville held up a hand. "We'll call you. Now, go. Sleep. Read. Take a walk. Do anything but work."
Day One: Sleep
Harry's first day of rest was spent doing something he hadn't done properly in months—sleeping.
He returned to his quarters, an apartment tucked into one of the castle's upper floors, and fell onto his bed. The weight of exhaustion hit him like a spell, and he was asleep within minutes.
When he woke, the sun was already setting, and he felt a strange sense of guilt at having done nothing all day.
But as he stretched and looked out at the sanctuary, he realized he hadn't felt this rested in ages.
Day Two: Wandering the Sanctuary
The next day, Harry decided to take a quiet walk around the sanctuary.
Bundled in a warm coat and scarf, he strolled through Hogsmeade, greeting residents as he passed. The streets bustled with activity—shops were reopening, people were clearing snow, and children built snowmen in the square.
When he reached the new farmland, he found Neville supervising a group of workers.
"Shouldn't you be resting?" Neville called with a smirk.
"I am," Harry replied. "This is what rest looks like for me."
Neville laughed. "Well, enjoy it. Things are finally looking up."
Day Three: Visiting Friends
On the third day, Harry made a point of visiting Luna in the Creature Habitat. She was kneeling in the snow, gently coaxing a family of bowtruckles into a newly enchanted tree.
"They seem happier now that the frost is gone," Luna said, her voice soft but cheerful.
Harry watched as a young bowtruckle climbed onto Luna's hand, chittering excitedly. "I think everyone is," he said.
They spent the afternoon talking about the creatures, the sanctuary, and the future. Luna's calm optimism was contagious, and Harry felt lighter as he left the habitat.
Day Four: A Quiet Meal
Fred and George insisted on taking Harry to dinner at one of the new taverns in Hogsmeade.
"You've been too serious for too long," Fred said as they sat at a cozy corner table.
George grinned. "And that's a crime against nature."
The evening was filled with laughter and stories, the twins' antics providing a much-needed distraction. For a few hours, Harry forgot about the frost, the tower, and the challenges ahead.
Day Five: Reflection
By the fifth day, Harry found himself drawn to the astronomy tower. With a journal in hand, he spent the afternoon writing down everything he could remember about the Black Tower, the heart, and the frost.
The process was therapeutic, helping him organize his thoughts and prepare for whatever came next.
As the sun set, he gazed out at the sanctuary, feeling a deep sense of gratitude for everything they had accomplished together.
Day Six: Rest and Recovery
Harry spent the sixth day indulging in simple pleasures—reading, sipping hot cocoa by the fire, and listening to the gentle hum of life within the dome.
For the first time in what felt like forever, he felt truly at peace.
Day Seven: Rejoining the Team
By the seventh day, Harry was ready to return.
He met with Neville, Draco, Luna, and the others in the Great Hall, catching up on everything that had happened during his week off.
"We managed just fine without you," Draco said with a smirk. "But don't let it go to your head."
Harry laughed. "I'm glad. But now it's time to get back to work."
Harry's week of rest had renewed his strength and focus. As he prepared to face whatever challenges lay ahead, he felt more ready than ever to lead his sanctuary into the future.
