Lillian's POV

Mate.

I don't know if I'll ever get used to that word.

"I know this is a lot to take in, especially the whole mate part. You were just crowned a Princess and officially revealed as the next heiress of this Kingdom. I also overheard tonight is your birthday. So why don't we just join your folks and then later tonight if you want we can talk and I'll answer any questions you may have. Although if you're too overwhelmed we can have that conversation whenever you're ready," Jesse said calming my feelings of being overwhelmed.

"Thank you for saying that Jesse. I can imagine in the near future I won't have much time to decompress my everyday emotions. So, I appreciate you giving me some time to wrap my head around this and just enjoy the moment," I replied with a small smile.

Jesse straightened up away from the wall and closed the space between us in two strides. He looked at me and said, "You have a really pretty smile. I hope to see it more often."

He then did a very overly dramatic bow before straightening out to his full height and offering his arm smiling.

"Princess."

"General," I laughed, "Nice to know you're not always an asshole."

"Princess, you will find out quickly I will always be an asshole when it comes to your safety. I take my position as your sword and shield seriously, even before I realized you were my mate. Now that I know you're my mate, your safety will always be nonnegotiable. I will always be an asshole if it's regarding protecting you I don't care who it is. But as you said I'm so damn handsome, so hopefully I can receive grace for my ways shall the asshole in me arise," he said smirking.

I rolled my eyes as I took his arm in mine.

"Oh boy, lucky me," I said flatly smiling.

"You have no idea," Jesse replied as we walked to the stage's curtains.

Once we got to the curtain Jesse unhooked his arm, pulled the curtains to the side and offered a hand as I stepped through.

Princess it's better if you don't mention to anyone right now that I'm your mate.

-Jesse warned.

Why? -I asked

I just want to wait until after we get a chance to talk to your father. He may not want the information public. -He replied

As I walked through the curtains a lot of people turned their heads, some stopping their conversations.

I wanted to shrink from all the attention but that was something Camille would do. Lillian would hold her head high, so that's just what I did.

Jesse shadowed me and offered his hand again as I descended the 5 five steps on the side of the stage.

I ignored the stares and looked for familiar faces. I spotted my Mom and Dad. And there was an older woman next to them. I walked over to them.

I spotted my adoptive Mom, Sky and her family as I got closer. Sky saw me as I headed to them, she waved me over.

Once I reached her she rushed me overly excited squeezing me in a hug.

Guards in the area took a step towards her.

I cut them a warning look. They hesitated and looked at Jesse, he shook his head.

They relaxed.

Sky didn't even notice.

"O. M. G! You're a crowned Princess and you changed your name too, which I love already. So much is happening and I just can't take it all in fast enough!" she rushed out.
