Camille's POV

As Kaden closed the door to the secret compartment behind me, my eyes adjusted quickly to the dim space, revealing a narrow passageway. As I followed down the tunnel I came to a two-way split. I chose the left passageway, hoping it might lead me closer to my mom's house. As I followed the passageway up some stairs to what looked like a cellar door I opened the door which led outside where a car waited. I looked all around the car searching for keys. Eventually I found the keys and slid into the driver's seat, holding onto hope that Kaden would follow soon after. I couldn't leave him behind... I wouldn't.

I sat in the car for as long as I could stand it (maybe ten minutes). I put the keys back in between the visor and I went back through the tunnel. As I paused to catch my breath, I leaned against the wall— and heard a soft click. The wall opened up as I stepped back, revealing an arsenal; machete-like blades, handguns with silencers, and more weapons than I could name. "Woah." I  grabbed a knife I could see myself easily using if it was necessary. And after a quick pause the smallest gun with a silencer and two clips. I hope I don't have to use a gun because I've never shot one but maybe Kaden could use it.

I crawled back towards the tunnel entrance that led back to Kaden's bedroom. I stopped to slow my breathing because these were supernatural beings they could possibly hear my heartbeat, I have to be as quiet as I can or my surprise attack plan would lose the sole purpose of it being a sneak attack.

I crept past a headless body, bile rising in my throat as I exited out of the tunnel. I slowly rounded the corner to the hall, I heard Kaden's voice ring out in pain. I freeze for a moment. After he stops yelling out I continue to move.

I get to the end of the hallway and very slowly turn another corner to the sound of kaden yelling out again.

I see two guys. Both thankfully with their backs to me. One has his fingers pressed hard into Kaden's temples that are covered in sweat and blood. And the other man was watching the first. If I'd had to guess the one watching had to be in charge. So I make a plan to creep up on this guy.

"Just give us the answers we want and we'll end your pain and suffering for you," the man asking questions said.

"Fuck off, your both dead when I get out of these chains" Kaden spat.

"Give me the girl!"..."I wonder why she's so important to Alpha Rayden?" he mumbled to himself after asking a question.

"Where is she now?" He yelled.

"Might as well kill me, because you will never get answers from me" Kaden said smiling before the guy touching his temples proceeded to dig his nails deeper into his temples again. Kaden began what could only be described as panting.

I miraculously crept up silently behind the man I assumed was in charge—close enough to feel his body heat.

I imagined my fangs extending, once I felt them extend I jumped on his back and pressed the knife blade against his throat hard enough to draw a little blood.

"Move and you're dead," I said, trying to sound braver than I felt.

The guy beside Kaden whose back I'm on freezes and the man torturing Kaden stops as well and turns to face me.

"You must be who we're looking for. Although I don't sense much power coming from you— must be a half-breed. Maybe they got it wrong but either way the boss wants you...."

I look over at Kaden who seems to be trying to still clear his head.

"Too bad for your boss."

The guy under my knife blade starts laughing," sweetie I hate to break it to you but you couldn't hurt a flee if you tried. I can tell you scared by the way the knife is wavering. You don't have what it takes to kill m-...." he starts to say reaching to grab the hand with the knife before I slit his throat and his body sags.

My hands trembled, blood dripping down my hand where I still held the blade.

I swallowed hard.

I have never taken anyone's life before. His body was warm. His blood was hotter. I had to—it was him or Kaden.

Kaden needed me. If it wasn't for me he would be fine. They must have tracked me in the woods, and he took off the necklace to block my magic.

I couldn't let him die when he would have been safe if he still had on the necklace I wore.

This guy's death was necessary for Kaden's life, and my survival. This wasn't murder—it was survival.

Movement from the guy torturing Kaden drew my attention snapping me back into the moment.

I had to focus Kaden needed me— I willed my brain to put my first killed locked away until I had time to decompress lately at a safer time.

"Holy shit you fucking half-breed," the other guy says as he puts his hand out towards me.

I don't feel anything but it seems the longer he kept his hand outstretched the hotter my necklace became. He must have been trying to attack me with magic of some sort. The necklace must be working.

"Dammit why the hell isnt this working?" He says furrowing his brow into what seems to be deeper concentration.

I hesitated.

Should I wait for him to realize his magic was currently useless, or risk it all and go for Kaden now?

I decide not to move since I killed his buddy he should leave soon, since nothing's happening to me apparently. If he doesnt leave I'll have to kill him too to protect Kaden. Nothing will stop me from seeing my Mom and Dad and Kaden knows where and who they are.

That is if he isn't my Dad.

I cant let him die—I have too many questions about why the left me.

If he dies and I dont get to my Mom also, I'll never know.

Kaden looked like he was barely holding on. Blood soaked through his shirt, and his breaths came out ragged. The smell of something burning was in the air—yet there was no fire. He had to make it or his blood would be on my hands.

I pull out the gun to intimidate him. "Just leave, and I won't hurt you." I say, rubbing my neck with my other hand as a burning sensation steadily got warmer and hotter and a slight hum sounded distracting me for a moment.

I wave off the uncomfortable feeling and focus on this  guy who is starting to sweat as his brow is still furrowed in concentration.

The glow intensified. The hum turned into a screech.

Then—snap.

The chain broke and I was hit with a blast of raw, violet energy. It threw me like a ragdoll into the wall. Pain exploded in my ribs and the back of my head.

One moment—sharp, jarring pain....

And then—nothing....
