Nathaniel's (Nathan's/Nate's) POV

Walking backstage with Jesse, Joel and the battalion I was excited that the inauguration was happening very soon.

The King and Queen teleported in as we made it to the center of the backstage.

We bowed in their presence.

Suzanna and a beautiful girl teleported in not far behind them.

The girl walked up to the King and Queen.

She must be the Princess, she was the person we had to protect.

She had a quiet beauty about her.

She smelled like a fresh bed of lavender in the woods. It was intoxicating.

My shifter spirit Zeke was intrigued also.

At least I'd have a pretty girl to look at while protecting her, though I'll have to be careful not to be obviously ogling the Princess.

I felt Jesse staring at me, I raised an eyebrow in confusion, before my gaze strayed back to the Princess.

Jesse called attention to the battalion shortly after the King and Queen exited backstage.

We got through the inauguration, and the Princess got crowned.

The Princess's scent was driving me crazy the entire time though.

I couldn't understand why though.

What's hard to understand?—Zeke chimed in.

What do you mean Zeke?

Just a hunch, but I doubt I'm wrong.

I rolled my eyes and continued listening to the King.

The King, Queen and Princess went backstage. Jesse, Joel, and I with the six shadow guards followed.

The King spoke to Princess Lillian about the importance of letting us protect her.

He also managed to embarrass the Princess mentioning mates and kids.

I never really thought about my mate or kids but I'm not opposed to children.

After talking to the Princess he hugged and kissed her before heading back on stage.

Jesse and Joel were joined by the Queen and Princess.

She produced 4 cups and asked us to fill them.

When the Princess was filling hers up I had to stop myself from drooling from the scent.

She's got to be our Mate.—Zeke

You think she's your mate?

It's the only thing that makes sense.—Zeke

She's pretty. I wouldn't mind being mated to her. But my dad would have a cow, not that I care.

Sure, kid. Why would you care?—Zeke

Shut up Zeke.

Whatever.—Zeke

She's got to be our mate.—Zeke

You don't know that.

I know what mate instincts feel like.—Zeke

No, you're reacting because she's powerful. She's royalty. Maybe because she's part shifter too.
