Jesse's POV

We went through every adult member, child and guard in a closed loop cycle.

They stated their names, pledged their oaths and loyalty.

Cut themselves.

Helped the children when it was their turn.

Lillian and I drank the blood.

We gave them one pinprick drop of blood in return.

And repeated.

Until everyone was done.

By giving each member one drop of our blood, it established a blood link to everyone. That drop ensured they could speak telepathically to us, but only if we reached out.

Not enough blood to bridge the gap to a complete two-way communication.

I hated politics, that's part of the reason I left my coven.

Never imagined I'd still end up in politics regardless of me leaving.

But this is the option open to me as Lillian's mate so I have to respect the process.

I guess I should take advantage of the weapons master and combat master myself. I can always learn more. I want to be able to protect her.

Thankfully, because we still had to meet Lillian's pack, we didn't stay long once we were through.

Lillian's POV

After we left the coven we headed to the pack. Jess had never seen the pack grounds before so dad teleported all of us to the pack grounds.

Everyone bared their necks as their Alpha and Luna passed by.

We headed to what dad said was the main pack house.

When we got inside we walked down the main hall to a set of double doors. As we approached a man exited.

He bared his neck in respect, then said, "Alpha I have everyone inside."

Dad nodded, then responded, "Casey, as you're aware, this is my daughter and her mate Jesse. Lillian this is my Beta, Casey. He's a strong and reliable guy. He handles the day-to-day functioning of the pack while I rule. Feel free to soak up any advice and knowledge he has."

I smiled and waved, "Nice to meet you," I responded.

He bowed in respect, "I want you to know your father and I will not be offended if you appoint new officers. In the pack we have myself as your Beta, two Gammas and four Deltas as we are a rather large pack," he explained, "It's natural to change pack officers when new Alphas take over the pack"

I'd say so, I thought.

This sounds like I'll be responsible for a lot of people. The thought is nerve-wracking, but, this is my duty.

I must take up the mantle my parents are setting before me, and I don't have the option of not being ready for the responsibilities. Rayden robbed me of time to get used to my responsibilities. I don't have the luxury of waiting. I have to seize the ability to lead, whether I'm ready or not.

I'll make mistakes but I won't back down.

"For now, as I assume leadership the officers will remain the same as I seek your counsel," I informed him.

He nodded.

"For the Alpha Ceremonial Ritual it's quite simple. You have Alpha blood running through your veins, so all you do is pledge yourself as Alpha of the Nightbane pack and Alpha Queen regent of the kingdom. First, per ceremony customs, I will ask if there's anyone who wants to challenge your leadership. Challenges are rare especially against a royal heir. Then you slice your palm and bleed into the ceremonial bowl then each member will do the same. Once everyone's blood is in the bowl you drink the entirety of the contents connecting both the pack to you shifter spirit and everyone's shifter spirit to you," he said.
