Jesse's POV
The Princess is my Mate.
The Goddess must hate me to mate me with the Princess.
I stood there stunned after the word fell from my lips.
Felt like everything fell into place.
Every spark.
Every tingle.
Why she consumed my every thought since I first laid eyes on her, when I stopped her from crashing.
The attraction.
All the signs were there.
How in the world did I miss them.
(Earlier That Day)
After speaking with the King and then my new battalion soldiers the Queen informed me of a room in which my best friends and I could set up an office for the three of us. She had Sebastian show the battalion and us to the room.
Once we got there Sebastian used his Fae magic to expand the room into three spacious offices, as well as private sleeping quarters with full bathrooms before bowing, congratulating us and then teleporting out.
"Holy shit dude, Fairy magic is so fucking cool."
"Fuck, you little shit," Joel said smacking Nathan upside the back of his head.
"Little, dude I'm like two whole feet taller than you short ass. And I out rank you. So show me some fucking help. Did the Fairy get his feelings hurt?" He taunted almost with a straight face before cackling like an evil maniac.
"I outrank both of you idiots, we just got promoted and you guys are acting like children. Let's get the schedules made for the battalion. We have to be finished and make it to the Ceremony before the King, Queen and Princess."
"Alright, alright boss man," Joel says smiling.
The guys settled down and got to business. The soldiers luckily felt more at ease with their lieutenants joking around.
We sent a soldier to deliver the news of the name we chose for the battalion. Heart of the Dragon, named after a revered species that has been extinct for over three millennia. Their magic was unmatched, and we will fight with the same intensity as a dragon to protect our ward, the Princess.
We also worked out a plan for the shifts for the three of us. We decided to have rotating schedules.
Luckily it was a Saturday so our schedules won't start in a weird half week rotation.
We also decided our shifts will switch at four a.m. and four p.m. to offset the guards who will switch at twelve a.m. and twelve p.m. and shadow guards will switch at two a.m. and two p.m.
This week I will be with the princess from four a.m. to four p.m.
Nate would take nights four p.m. to four a.m. and Joel will be off duty.
Every week each of us will have to work a twenty four hour shift as we rotate.
So next Sunday Nate will work from four p.m. Saturday night until four p.m. Sunday night in which Joel will work nights next week from four p.m. to four a.m. and Nate will work days from four a.m. to four p.m. and it will be my week off.
The third week Joel will work at twenty four hour shift and work days as I work nights while Nate is off and repeat.
Tonight at the celebration we will all be present to introduce ourselves and get to know the princess so she feels comfortable with us as we'll be around often.
We got everyone's schedule created, so once business was taken care of I had about two hours until I had to meet the King and Queen again.
I had some time to kill. I decided to take a walk around the castle as I got lost in my thoughts.
