After locking up the art room, you and Sting walked through the hallways to reach the front doors of the school. Sting had opened the door for you, letting you be the first one out of the door. And just like that, you had a heart attack.
"Boo!"
"Ahh!"
"Hahaha! You should have seen your face!" Natsu was doubled over laughing, while you were doubled over trying to catch your breath.
"Not funny, man." Sting shook his head at Natsu, trying to keep in a laugh of his own. "And I thought you already left!"
"Nah, I gotta take her home." Natsu said, his laughter dying down.
"I'm going to kill you one day and hang your head above the fire place!" You threatened him. "And I thought you forgot about me!"
"Lucy made sure I didn't forget, she wrote it on my hand." Natsu smiled, flipping his hand over so you both could see the inside of his palm. In Lucy's handwriting, it did in fact say, 'Remember Y/n'.
"I can drive her home if you don't want to go through with all the trouble." Sting said, his voice somewhat flat.
"Nah, it's fine. I plan on seeing Lucy anyways."
"Yeah, and I'll tell her how you almost gave me a heart attack!" You shouted at him. He started to laugh again, and Sting started to question the dynamic between the two of you.
"Do you guys not get along..?" He raised an eyebrow. He was genuinely confused.
"No, we get along." You said with a small smile. "He's like... an annoying brother-in-law."
"We didn't at first though! Y/n hated me!" Natsu laughed.
"I didn't hate you, you just annoyed me. And you still do." You muttered the last part under your breath.
"Right, I think you might've mentioned that earlier, Natsu. If you don't mind me asking, why didn't you like him, Y/n?"
"It's not like I 'disliked' him. I'm shy to begin with, and his first impression... let's just say it didn't impress me." You sighed, thinking about the memory. As for Natsu, he started laughing.
"Right." Sting said flatly. "But what happened?"
"Maybe that's a story for another day." You waved it off.
Sting smiled softly and gave a small nod. "Alright."
"Anyways, we should get going. Can't keep Lucy waiting." Natsu said, waving you closer.
"I'll meet you by the car in a minute, Natsu. I uh.. I want to talk to Sting for a second." You told him, and then turned your head to Sting. "That is, if you can wait a few minutes?"
"Yeah, of course."
"Alright, just don't take too long, Lucy will kill me!" Natsu shouted as he started to walk to his car. When he was out of ear shot, you looked up at Sting.
"I just wanted to thank you for your help." You smiled sweetly.
"You've already thanked me." He chuckled a bit, placing his hand on the top of your head. "I figured you could have used the company."
"Well, thanks anyway. I appreciate it."
"It's really no problem. I like spending time with you."
Your face grew instantly red. "I— well, uhm... haha, I uh.." you kept stuttering over your words, and couldn't find any good ones to say. "I have to go, I'll see you later!"
You turned on your heels and tried to hurry away from him, but he quickly grabbed ahold of your wrist, making you turn back to him.
"Y/n, wait a second... I want to ask you something."
"Wh-What is it...?"
"Have you been trying to avoid me?"
"Avoid you? What do you mean..?"
"I mean, earlier today you tried to leave lunch early. And then during gym before I could get you medicine, you took off. And just now you tried to rush away. Do you not like me or something?"
"No, I like you!" You blurted out, maybe a bit too quickly. Your face grew even more red, probably the color of Erza's hair. "Uhm... what I mean is..."
"It's alright, you don't have to explain." Sting smiled. "I was afraid that you didn't like me."
"That's not the case." You shook your head.
"I guess I'm just a little confused, still. You seem fine around Rogue and Yukino. What's different about me?" Your heart started to beat a bit faster, and your stomach started to do flips over and over again. You felt your head spinning. "You know what? That question is unfair. You don't have to answer that."
"Uhm..."
"Hm?"
"It's... uh..." You wanted to say it. You wanted to tell him. But you knew he'd never feel the same way. It was only a few words that had to spill from your mouth, why couldn't you say them? You felt like you were choking on them, the three simple words lodged in your throat and burning it from the inside.
"Y/n? You okay?" Sting raised an eyebrow, placing a hand on your shoulder.
"Here!" You screeched, reaching into your back pack and pulling out one of your notebooks.
No.
No.
There was no way you were doing this. There was no way! No, no, no! Stop, what were you doing?!
Your brain was screaming at you as you flipped to the page in your notebook, and ripped it out. You looked down at your feet as you handed Sting the piece of paper. "Here."
Sting took the piece of paper and examined it with wide eyes. A big smile appeared on his lips, and you could have sworn there was a tint of pink dusted on his cheeks.
"You drew this?"
"Mhm."
"Y/n, this is amazing! It looks just like me! You even got my scar! And my earring! Your attention to detail is... it's amazing!"
"It was just a quick sketch." You laughed it off.
"This is why you were acting weird? You were nervous to show me this?"
"Uh... yes! That's it."
"You shouldn't have been! It's great!"
"You don't have to lie, it's just a quick—"
"And why would I lie to you? It really is great!"
"Sting, I—"
"Y/n! Let's go!" Natsu interrupted you from his car, honking the horn.
"I should go."
"Yeah, me too. I'll see you tomorrow, Y/n." Sting smiled and gave you a small wave. You waved back, and you both walked off in different directions.
When you got into Natsu's car, the second hand embarrassment finally hit you. You covered your face with your hands, and wanted to disappear.
"So, you and Sting, huh?" Natsu smirked at you as he started to drive.
"Don't even."
