You woke up to the sound of screaming and glass shattering. Jolting up in bed, you slung the covers off of you and hurried down the stairs, but not before grabbing an X-Acto knife that you kept by your easels. When you made it down the stairs you saw your father pacing the floor, rubbing his temples with his face all red. Lucy was sitting in the couch in front of him, and so was Natsu... uh oh.
"How could you do this to me, to our family!?" Your father yelled at Lucy. "This is despicable! You are Lucky Lady Lucy Heartfilia! The Heir to the Heartfilia family!"
"I know that."
"And you are acting like this!? So ridiculously!?"
"I don't know what you want me to say!"
"You are just like your mother!"
"Don't bring mom into this!"
"Whose grand idea was this, huh!? To disobey me like this!? Who has influenced you!?"
"No one has!"
"I should have every mind to pull you out of that school! Such a bad influence on you... I'm incredibly disappointed in you, Lucy! How could you do this to your own father?!"
"I don't know what to tell you! I love Natsu!"
"You can't love him! He is no one to you but a random citizen!"
"He is everything to me! Me makes me happy, he's there for me, more than you have ever been!"
"Excuse me!?"
"He remembers details about me that you never could! He listens to me, and he knows when my birthday is!"
"Oh, right, those standards are so high." Your father rolled his eyes.
"It is when your own father doesn't know it!"
"You have an image to uphold, and running around with this delinquent will not help that image!"
"You don't care about my image, you only care about your reputation!"
"My reputation is yours, Lucy!"
"I'm my own person! You cannot make decisions for me!"
"You represent our family, and I will continue to make good decisions for you, since you cannot seem to make any good ones yourself! Exhibit A!" Your father pointed to Natsu. He looked down, not because he was sad that your father was insulting him, but because he was holding his tongue. Lucy had told him a while ago that if they were ever found out, that he would have to hold his tongue. And he promised he would. But it was getting harder and harder the longer your father was yelling at them.
"I don't care, you just saying I'm not allowed to see him will only make me want him more. I love him, and you can't do anything about it." Lucy shot at him. Your father groaned, growing frustrated.
"Can't you see that you are damaging this family!?"
"This family has been damaged since mom died!"
"Don't raise your voice at me!"
"Then don't raise your voice at me!"
"This isn't how I raise you, this is definitely your mother showing!"
"Considering that you didn't raise me, I'd hope my mother would show through!"
"You are despicable! You need to consider your role as the Heartfilia heir!"
"I won't, not if I can't be with Natsu!"
Your father groaned, and then caught a glimpse of you at the bottom of the stairs. "Ah! Y/n! Talk some sense into your sister, please! She is being utterly ridiculous!"
You walked deeper into the room, your anxiety high. "There is nothing she can say that will make me change my mind! I will be with Natsu whether you like it or not!"
"You will not be with him! You will be leaving that school and you will devote your time to your studies here!"
"No!"
"Yes!"
"Why can't I—"
"I'll do it!" You shouted, everyone looking at you. "I'll do it."
"What's that?"
"I said I'll do it. I'll be the Heartfilia heir. I can be the face, the representative of our family if it means you both stop fighting over something so ridiculous!"
"Y/n, I can't ask that of you." Lucy shook her head. You smiled softly at her, and took her hands in yours.
"Lucy... are you happy with Natsu?"
"Yes, very happy..."
"I want you to be happy, Lucy. You're my big sister, your happiness is important to me."
"Your happiness it's important to me too, that's why I won't let you do this."
"Lucy... someone needs to do it, and I have nothing going for me... I don't have friends, I don't go out... I go to school and I come home. But you... you have a life, you have friends and a boyfriend, you're in so many clubs... you shouldn't have to give that all up. Lucy, I'll take your place as the heir."
"Y/n... I... I don't know what to say..."
"Are you sure about this?" Your father asked, his voice now a bit softer.
"Yes... I'll take Lucy's place."
"It's settled then." Your father said, settling the matter. "However, Lucy, you're still grounded for sneaking in a boy." Lucy was smiling, glad that being grounded was the only punishment.
"Thank you, Y/n." Lucy hugged you close, and then pulled away.
"Yeah, thanks, Y/n!" Natsu smiled widely, getting up from his spot on the couch and also giving you a hug.
"Now get out of my house." Your father scolded Natsu. Natsu nodded, just happy that him and Lucy could still be together. When he was gone, your father turned to Lucy. "I better not see him in this house again. Understood?"
"Understood." She said, but she was lying through her teeth.
She would continue to sneak Natsu into the house, and each time, her father would ground her. But she would keep sneaking him in, despite the punishments. It had got to the point where her father gave up trying to discipline her, and decided that fighting with the ex-heir would get him no where. He now had to try and perfect the new heir, you, who so graciously took Lucy's place. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise for the family, and would work out for the best. Lucy was too defiant, but you? Your father could mold you like the lump of clay you were.
