Chapter Twenty Five! real life.
Paige sat on the edge of Azalea's bed, watching as she packed a bag. It was pretty early in the morning and they were both leaving Connecticut to head down to North Carolina for the team's away game tomorrow. Except that meant that they'd be away from each other for 12 hours and Azalea would be driving alone.
And naturally, Paige was nervous as shit.
And Paige being nervous was making Azalea more nervous than she already was.
She was already nervous about meeting Paige's family tomorrow and now she was nervous about driving 12 hours to North Carolina. It would be the longest trip she has ever driven and she would be alone. She already had everything ready though. Her hotel room was booked, she had done all her assignments for the two days she would miss, she—well, more Paige—had set up reminders on her phone of when to take a break from driving and extra money Aubrey had given her for gas and food.
"Are you sure you don't want to go on the bus with us?" Paige asked again, for the millionth time, fiddling with her hands as she watched Azalea pack her small bag of makeup and skincare.
Azalea briefly glanced at her, zipping up her makeup bag. "Paige, I can't go on the bus with you." She said again, knowing how persistent Paige was on going on the team's bus.
Paige sighed, her eyes not leaving Azalea. "I'm sure no one would even care. Hell, I think the girls might actually like you being there." Paige tried again, but it was not worth it. Azalea wasn't a student athlete and even if the coaches and staff didn't care, she'd still feel like she'd be intruding or out of place. "Plus, I'd feel so much better knowing that you're there with me and not driving alone. And, what if you're hearing aids lose their battery?"
"Then I'll drive without them." Azalea shrugged, trying to not listen to Paige's words which were making her more anxious.
Paige's eyes narrowed, her lips pressing into a thin line as she leaned forward on the bed. "Azalea. Hell no. That's not safe. What if something happens and you can't hear a car honk or a siren?" She said, absolutely hating the idea of Azalea driving without hearing anything.
Azalea turned around, crossing her arms and facing her and forgetting about her makeup bag for now. She knew Paige was worried, but her persistence was making her second guess her own decision. "Paige, I'll be fine. I've done it before-"
"-For twelve hours?"
Azalea clenched her jaw, her manicured nails practically digging into her skin, looking at Paige, her face screaming 'are you done?' at her. She didn't want to snap, she really didn't. But Paige's words were starting to pile into her chest and she felt like she was going to get a whole panic attack if Paige kept talking.
