Chapter Thirty! real life.
To say being back in Connecticut was awkward was the understatement of the year.
It was clear as day that Aubrey and Azzi were actively ignoring Paige. And KK, Morgan and Sarah were acting like children of divorced parents, acting as if they would much rather be with Azalea—or as they claimed, in custody of their mother.
Some of the other girls were at least trying to somewhat talk to Paige, trying to make her feel included but it was a little obvious that everyone was on Azalea's side. Even if they weren't outright saying it, the way they almost unsure about how to navigate the situation was very prominent.
And Paige didn't blame them. Hell, even she is on Azalea's side knowing damn well this is all on her.
As the evening wore off and the night settled in, the girls dispersed in their own directions. Some headed to their rooms for the night, considering the long practice they just had and the game against Providence yesterday, but some of the others lingered in the common room, quietly talking amongst themselves. They also were going to Wisconsin and needed to pack their bags.
As Paige walked down the hall, she walked past Aubrey's room and hesitated slightly. She knows that Aubrey had made it very clear that she didn't want to talk to her or even acknowledge her but Paige personally wanted to apologize to Aubrey as well.
It wasn't just about proximity or trying to get on Aubrey's good side again—but it was also about respect. Aubrey wasn't just Azalea's older sister—everyone knew that. She was Azalea's best friend before anyone else, her confidant, the one who had always been there to protect her and pick up the pieces whenever someone let Azalea down.
And hurting Azalea meant, by extension, losing Aubrey's trust in the process. Paige made a promise of never hurting Azalea, yet that was exactly what she went and did. It was a promise she had broken and the weight of that failure crushed her. And apologizing to Aubrey first was like a first step, a way to show Azalea that she didn't just love her; she respected the people who mattered most to her too.
So with hesitancy, Paige gently knocked on her door, gaining the attention of Aubrey who was starting to pack her bag for the trip to Wisconsin for their game against Marquette.
Aubrey didn't bother saying anything, turning back around and continuing to pack her things.
Paige took a deep breath, cautiously stepping into her doorway. "Aubrey, I know you-"
"What do you want Paige?" Aubrey sharply cut her off, clearly not wanting to put up with her bullshit.
Paige pursed her lips, knowing she absolutely deserved that. Crossing her arms, she spoke up again. "I want to apologize." She said carefully.
