Chapter Twenty Eight!
real life.

It had been two weeks.

Two weeks since Azalea walked out of Paige's room, her heart aching from the words she never thought she'd hear. Two weeks of silence from both of them. No calls, no texts—it was radio silence. The plans they'd made for the holidays—spending time with her family and then Paige's—were all but forgotten about.

And Paige felt like shit.

She spent her days replaying her own words—words she wished she could take back. She replayed the night over and over again, remembering how Azalea had looked at her, trying to be understanding, to help her and be there for her and the only thing Paige did was throw it at her face.

She hated herself for it.

She had promised to never hurt Azalea, to never make her feel less than or worthless, yet that was exactly what she did. All because she couldn't handle her own frustration. Paige crossed a line. She knows that. And she hated every minute that passed without Azalea and hated it even more because she knew that it was her fault.

She couldn't shake the memory of Azalea's face. The way her eyes had shimmered with unshed tears, how she had held her head high even when Paige's words had cut her down. Azalea had always been strong—stronger than Paige ever gave her credit for. But that strength didn't mean Paige had the right to tests its limit.

Every time she had her phone, her finger always hovered over Azalea's contact name. What could she even say? Sorry? That felt inadequate and half-assed. An apology like that was pathetic. It wouldn't even suffice to everything she wanted to say. Azalea deserved better, she deserved everything and Aubrey sure reminded her every second she got.

Paige remembers how Aubrey stormed into her room after Azalea left without looking back or saying a word. She remembers how Aubrey practically shoved her by the shoulders and how Ayanna and Jana had to also get involved or else nobody would've heard from Paige again. How Aubrey spat words at her, which she deserved. Aubrey trusted Paige with Azalea—hell, she gave Paige her fucking blessing to be with Azalea and Paige took advantage of that, of Azalea's kindness and love.

It wasn't just immense guilt eating at her. It was also fear. Fear that Azalea wouldn't forgive her. That the damage had been permanently done. Paige had always been so sure of herself, so confident in the ability to fix things, bounce back from mistakes. But this? This was different. Azalea was different.

And when she thought back to their holiday plans, more guilt just came upon her. Azalea had been so excited, rambling on about the places she wanted to take Paige in New York, about how her mom was looking forward to seeing Paige again. Or how she wanted to properly introduce Paige to her brothers and show Paige her childhood home. Then she thought back to her brother Drew, who was also extremely excited to see Azalea again and show her his presents and how he was improving in basketball. But now, those plans were in ruins because of her own stupidity.
