Siddharth stood there for a moment, his heart still heavy with guilt. He had hurt Ruhi more than he realized. While he was sitting in his seat, his thoughts kept circling back to the moment she had confessed her feelings, and how everything had spiraled from there. His actions—no matter how well-intentioned—had caused her pain, and the punishment he had put her through had only made things worse.
Siddharth pulled away from the hug, his hands still resting gently on Ruhi's shoulders. His heart was racing, but his thoughts were clearer now. He looked into her eyes, seeing the mix of confusion, pain, and surprise. His throat tightened as the weight of his actions hit him again. The words he had been holding back finally spilled out.
"Ruhi... I—I'm so sorry," Siddharth said softly, his voice trembling. "For everything. I never meant to hurt you, especially not after you—after you confessed to me."
Ruhi stepped back slightly, her eyes now downcast, her face flushed from the unexpected embrace. She didn't know how to respond, but her heart felt heavy, the memories of everything that had happened weighing on her.
"I know it's hard to forgive me. I don't expect you to," Siddharth continued, his voice low and filled with regret. "But I had no right to punish you the way I did. I'm so sorry."
He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself as he looked at her, his eyes filled with guilt and desperation. "I just—please, Ruhi... I want you to know that I'll never make you feel that way again. Not intentionally. I—"
Ruhi raised her hand slightly, signaling him to stop, and Siddharth went quiet, his heart still hammering in his chest. She met his gaze, and for the first time since the incident, there was a flicker of something in her eyes—hurt, yes, but something more, a tiny trace of relief.Ruhi's voice cracked as she spoke, her tears finally spilling over. She looked at Siddharth with a mix of pain and anger that cut through him like a blade.
"Tumne ek baar bhi mujhse baat karni zaruri nhi samjhi... friend bolte the na tum mujhe?" she said, her voice trembling. "But did you behave like one?"
Her words hit Siddharth hard. He opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out. His throat felt dry, and guilt surged through him as he saw the hurt in her eyes.
"You complained about me," Ruhi continued, her voice rising as she wiped her tears hastily, "and forced Sumedh sir to punish me... just to satisfy your ego! Ki main to itna bada star hoon, kaise koi aise waisi ladki mujhe propose kar sakti hai? Aur jab unhone punish nhi kiya.. to tumhe kar diya... Wow, and I used to think that I was your friend. "
Her words echoed in the empty classroom. Before Siddharth could process them, Ruhi pushed him lightly on his chest. The action wasn't forceful, but it was enough to make him take a step back.Siddharth's heart broke at the sight of her tears. He raised his hands slightly, as if to reach out to her, but stopped himself. He didn't deserve to comfort her—not after everything he had done.
