Chapter 40: On their feet again

Sanemi was ready to break something, he was ready to rip anything and everything apart without stopping. How could they keep stopping at moments like this? Did they seriously have to keep them on the edge like this?

"Come on," Hikaru said as he got up and grabbed Sanemi's arm. The others held their breath after all they could see how angry Sanemi was and they weren't sure how he would take being grabbed like that. It probably shouldn't come to a surprise to them but Sanemi just snarled and followed as Hikaru tugged him away.

"Should we go after them?" Giyuu looked worried.

"The only person that Sanemi won't lash out at the moment is Hikaru so it's best if we just leave him to calm him down," Ubuyashiki said. If he was honest with himself he knew if anyone tried to approach Sanemi there would definitely be violence.

"How about we decide where we can have our picnic? There are plenty of different places that we could hold it," Kanroji suggested.

"The autumn place," Tanjiro instantly said and they turned to him. "Hikaru really likes autumn and I don't mind the colors either, we don't really get to see the colors since we live so far in the mountains it is mostly always snowing."

"Autumn is nice and the colors are really beautiful," Kanroji beamed. This of course made Tanjiro shiver as he felt Obanai's eyes drilling into his back as he glared.

"Then shall we head over there? We can't set up without Hikaru but we can at least find the right place," Shinobu smiled.

"That's a flamboyant idea, we have been training a lot so some of us haven't been able to explore," Uzui said.

"In that case let's go," Ubuyashiki agreed and just like they said they headed towards the autumn area. Tamayo and Yushiro decided to explore around on their own since they wouldn't be joining them. Akaza on the other hand, well no one really wanted to start a fight with him by asking what he would be doing (he decided he would keep training, after all if he wanted to beat that damn Douma he needed to keep training and getting stronger).

"I'm guessing that you don't want to talk about it," Hikaru said as he watched Sanemi pace back and forth in front of him since he was sitting on a rock.

"Talk about it? Talk about what? The fact that in the future you are always getting injured? That you are nearly dying every single day, that you are a demon slayer and there is nothing that I can do that will stop that from happening?" Sanemi snarled out.

"Every demon slayer puts their life on the line when they decide to join and I am no different," Hikaru replied.

"Every other demon slayer still wants to live and fights to continue to survive!" Sanemi yelled. The 'unlike you' was left unsaid but they both heard it and Hikaru had to hold back his flinch.

"You aren't any better so don't try to use that against me. Both of us know that if we were fighting a demon tomorrow and died while doing it all we would be hoping for is that we took the demon with us," Hikaru pointed out and Sanemi went silent knowing that what Hikaru said was right. "This is the future that we are watching and that means that we can change it. It means that I have a chance to fight and get stronger so I don't have to fight as recklessly and it means that you have a chance to make things right with those around you."

"What is that meant to mean?" Sanemi glared, he had a feeling that he wasn't going to like what Hikaru said next.

"Giyuu and Genya," And Sanemi was right that he didn't like the words.

"There is nothing to say or do about them. One is a stuck up prick and the other we don't talk about," Sanemi said.

"If you looked past your own first thoughts and gave him a chance you would figure out that Giyuu is nothing like you are thinking," Hikaru snapped. Sanemi was about to make another comment when he paused. He thought about the things that he had been noticing about Giyuu but pushed them away and realized that maybe there was some truth to what Hikaru had just said. "And there is Genya."
