Teqi had only been awake for a few minutes, a dew tired blissful minutes before she slowly became aware of a heavy feeling in her gut. It wasn't dread, no, it was something much worse.
Dread came with it, of course, and somewhere in the back of her mind she knew she should just get up and deal with it instead of lying in bed next to a rubber mallet and a plank of wood.
She rubbed her eyes and squinted at the plank of wood. Sure, Leo was as skinny as a string bean and could easily be mistaken for a plank of wood, but Leo was softer and darker and tended to hold onto her when he slept. He also did this adorable little snoring thing with his face squashed into her that made her beam.
Maybe he'd slid the plank of wood into her arms when he left as to not wake her up. Teqi wouldn't put it past him. He'd served up drill bits instead of carrot sticks for lunch once.
Coach Hedge hadn't noticed.
This thought process you're reading here, is something called avoidance.
Maybe if she went to sleep, the problem would sense her vibe and meander off. Now you're probably thinking that all you'll get in this chapter are vague metaphors and connotations before the problem is forgotten about five hundred words in.
Buckle up.
Teqi got her period. There was a pool of blood in her knickers that'd most definitely leaked through pyjama pants [they would never be the same again] and probably the sheet. It felt like someone was pressing that mallet into her uterus. Oooh, scary word. What was scarier was the fact Teqi was going to have to stand in the shower and watch stringy clumps of her own flesh fall out of her vagina.
All cause she hadn't jumped Leo's bones and gotten knocked up.
But before all that happened, [the blood stuff, not the boyfriend's stuff], she was gonna have to get out of bed.
Or not. All of the above could be achieved from bed, but it wouldn't be pretty. Also, Jason would probably kill her if they didn't get that cure and he died and asked her what happened and she said 'hormones'. Eventually, Teqi got to her feet, bracing for impact of course, and then trudged down the hall with her tracksuit pants in hand.
The hot water was so inviting, it felt like she was a little marshmallow in a steaming hot chocolate. No wonder people liked saunas. Maybe she'd ask Leo to build her one. Or she could dump water over his head and kiss him to yield the same results.
She was washing shampoo out of her hair when the shower exploded.
Pipes jutted out of the wall, nearly skewering her, as cold water dripped from the roof. She wiped her eyes and assessed the damage in the groaning and creaking walls around her.
Yeah, her shower was over.
Either Percy had dropped his breakfast, or Piper was getting more creative in her quest to save hot water for herself.
Teqi stomped out of the shower, grabbed a pad built like a blow up mattress, and realised she hadn't brought a towel with her to the bathroom. She just pulled her tracksuit pants on and wiped soap off her face, kicking the bathroom door open.
Leo was a blue as he raced past her, wrench in hand. "Man, did you have to destroy the plumbing?"
Percy ignored him. Water ran down the gangway. The hull rumbled as more pipes burst and sinks overflowed. Teqi rinsed her hair, squeezing it and leaving a puddle at her feet. "Dude! You don't see me turning your showers into rosé!"
