There was much talk of Riddle and the Chamber of Secrets and the monster within over the next week between Harry, Ron, Hermione and Brittany. This paused for a moment, however, when the second years were required to choose their courses for the next year.
"Great. We get to add two more classes."
Brittany sighed as she looked at the paper.
"Divination sounds cool."
Yes said and checked it down.
"Don't be so foolish about it! This could affect our whole future!"
Hermione gasped.
"I just want to give up potions."
Harry said.
"We can't do that. We have to take the core subjects, otherwise I'd have ditched DADA."
Ron frowned.
"That subject is very important!"
Hermione snapped.
"Not when Lockhart teaches!"
Ron said back.
"Well, it could work as a drama class."
Brittany said. Ron looked confused, but Harry, Hermione, and Brittany didn't bother telling him about muggle subjects at that moment.
"Besides, I have a feeling next year will be much better."
Brittany smiled.
"Might even be exciting."
Harry and Ron ended up asking around for advice, while Brittany checked off Care of Magical Creatures.
"I like unicorns and stuff. If only they had an art class, though."
She looked over at Hermione's.
"Er, Hermione, you've made a mistake. You've checked everything. Even muggle studies, you've lived with muggles for your whole life."
Hermione just nodded.
"I know that. It just seems so interesting. Don't worry, I'll manage."

Brittany and Ron were waiting in the Quidditch stands for the Hufflepuff vs. Gryffindor game to start.
"I wonder where Hermione is..."
Brittany said.
"Probably in the library."
Ron said.
"I'm going to go look for her."
Brittany jumped up and dashed off.
"Don't be to long, the match's about to start!"
Ron yelled after her. Brittany didn't hear what the announcement was about, but she suspected it was the match starting. She entered the castle and headed for the library.
"Potter."
Brittany saw Snape turn around the corner.
"Professor..."
She said uneasily.
"Where are you going to in such a hurry? Surely you aren't going to miss your brother's match? Last time he did get into a bit of trouble."
He sneered.
"Just looking for my friend, sir."
She glared.
"If you are talking about Ms. Granger, the library is not the right place to look at this time. Why don't you rum along to the. . . infirmary?"
Brittany gasped. She whipped around and dashed to the hospital wing. She almost ran into Harry, Ron, and McGonagall.
"Potter! There you are, I was looking for you. Were you not at the match?"
Brittany gasped for breath.
"No, I went to look for Hermione, but Snape said-"
"Professor Snape."
"Yeah, him, said she was in the hospital wing!"
McGonagall frowned sadly.
"This may come as a bit of a shock."
They stepped into the hospital wing and saw that Hermione had been petrified.
"What?"
Brittany gasped.
"Hermione!"
Ron went over to her bed.
"She was found with this. Does it mean anything to you?"
Madam Pomfrey held up a small mirror. Brittany, Harry, and Ron shook their heads. They all glanced at each other. This was going to be difficult to stop the monster now.
