The party throbbed around them, with the music pulsing like a heartbeat through the floorboards and lights flickering in chaotic rhythm. The bass was heavy, the room hazy with laughter and the air filled with the syrupy scent of spilled Firewhiskey.

For Olivia, her world had narrowed to one mission: dragging Theo to the dance floor.

She already ditched her heels somewhere near the drinks table, barefoot and buzzing with energy, tugging insistently at his wrist with dramatic determination. He wasn't budging

"Come on," She begged, flashing her most persuasive grin. "I'll buy you chocolate for a week."

He arched a brow. "I don't take bribes."

She leaned in, lowering her voice conspiratorially. "I'll—" She glanced around, then smirked. "—stop telling people you cried at the end of Bambi."

His frown deepened, eyes narrowing. "That was a private conversation. And he was murdered. That shit was tragic."

She laughed, delighted by his indignation. "Please," She begged, clasping her hands with exaggerated pleading.

"I'm not dancing, Liv," His tone was flat, but the corners of his mouth twitched. He was cracking.

"Why not?" She whined, swaying dramatically, hips rolling to the beat. "Scared of being too charming?"

Theo met her gaze with infuriating calm. "Terrified."

Her laugh burst out before she could stop it, but it faltered just slightly at the edges. Why did it always feel like there was something more sitting just beneath his calm exterior, like a word he wanted to say but didn't? She let out a scoff like she was genuinely offended, even though she was enjoying every second of it. "Fine. Be boring."

Her eyes landed on Enzo, and her grin reignited. "Guess I'll dance with someone who isn't boring."

Enzo gave a mock bow, as theatrical as ever. "Your wish is my command, my lady."

She rolled her eyes, laughing and letting him tug her into the crowd. The music was louder here, bodies pressed close, heat rising from the dance floor in waves. Enzo spun her dramatically, and she tipped back into it, their hands locked as she twirled. She laughed, loud and bright, almost forgetting the weight of eyes she felt on her.

This was what parties were for: dancing barefoot, being spun until she was dizzy and forgetting the way Theo's eyes lingered for half a second too long.

She told herself that. Over and over. It made her feel invincible, like the rest of the world could wait. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she knew Emerson was still across the room, probably tangled up in that tension with Mattheo. Olivia didn't need to look to feel it.
