Chapter 37
The next morning after Valentine's Day was a Sunday. It was a day of lounging around Ravenclaw Tower, as the morning sun filtered through the windows while Emerson sipped on a cup of tea with Olivia in the Ravenclaw common Room. She actually slept better the night prior, with no nightmares of Cedric consuming her subconscious which meant she was not reliant on coffee this morning. It surprised her, but she had a sneaking feeling that it was something to do with the events of yesterday between her and Mattheo. The remnants of her emotions from the previous day still lingered, but there was a sense of calm that wasn't there before.
Yesterday was... Unexpected, to say the least. And she wasn't quite sure how to explain it all to Olivia.
She could tell from the look on her best friend's face that Olivia had an amazing time with George at Hogsmeade. It was written all over her glowing expression. The entire morning she couldn't sit still, practically vibrating with excitement. Emerson tried to smile back, but her thoughts were still tangled up from the day before.
"So," Olivia began, her eyes gleaming as she leaned forward. "You never came to Hogsmeade. What did you end up doing for Valentine's Day? I was thinking about you all day, wondering if you were okay. I hope you didn't spend it all alone."
Emerson glanced away for a moment, watching the morning light dance across the floor. She knew Olivia was bound to ask eventually, but she still hadn't figured out how much she wanted to share. Especially about Mattheo. Him holding her hand and hugging her, along with their confessions and his comfort felt closer to the heart than she realised. It felt too personal and raw, to share so soon.
"I... Well, I didn't do much," Emerson admitted hesitantly. "I went down to the Black Lake for a while, just to clear my head. You know how hard the day was going to be for me."
Olivia's face softened, and she reached out, giving Emerson's arm a gentle squeeze. "I do. I'm sorry, Em. I was hoping you might come with us to take your mind off it."
"Well..." Emerson began, her fingers tapping the edge of her mug in a rhythm. "I didn't spend the whole day alone."
Olivia's eyebrows shot up, her grin widening. "Oh? Did you change your mind and head to Hogsmeade after all?"
